A slightly revised cover (which I love) and a new endorsement for my next book. All of this is making for a very happy holiday season.... “Conspirator in Chief is a fascinating deep dive into the history of conspiracy theories promulgated by US presidents. In the internet age, we are used to thinking of conspiracy theories as a distinctly modern problem. Knott shows how they have been weaponized by presidents going back to Andrew Jackson, and along the way illuminates just how Donald Trump’s online firehose of conspiracies and misinformation serve his political aims. Excellent reading for US history buffs and those who want to understand our current conspirator-in-chief alike.”—Cailin O’Connor, coauthor of "The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread"

Ennobling the republic once again…
Trump on Jon Husted: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

Spent the bulk of the weekend at my alma mater Assumption University for a Board of Trustees meeting. Really honored to give back to the place that changed my life. I never imagined when I graduated decades ago that I’d have this opportunity.

A new review and a good one: "Everyone really should read this book. The scope of it is quite extraordinary, it offers a history of the American presidency through a particular lens. . . . It is extraordinarily well written and leaves plenty of connections for the reader to draw."—Peter Josephson, author of 'The Great Art of Government: Locke’s Use of Consent'

Leading a Teaching American History seminar this weekend in Quincy, MA, on Washington, Hamilton, and John Adams. They differed on several issues but agreed with Hamilton that “Of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants.”

Next up for the DOJ: reopening the Aaron Burr conspiracy trial.
DOJ is reviewing whether the special prosecutor’s office that investigated the Watergate break-in committed misconduct, according to people familiar with the matter, more than half a century after that scandal led to Nixon’s resignation. W @PhilipWegmann wsj.com/politics/policy/deca…

Any person who had a modicum of decency would apologize, immediately, and then impose some basic accountability for some remarkably negligent staff work. He was trying to set up a perjury trap with fake information. Pitiful.
A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. Watch the whole thing:

Over and over, President Trump and his officials tell Ukraine to stop bombing Russia's oil refineries. When will they tell Russia to stop bombing Ukraine's apartment buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, and academies of science?
A Russian strike against the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A rescue operation is underway: crews are putting out the fire and searching for people who may have been trapped inside. All services are deployed. Today in Kyiv, a pharmaceutical company and gas stations were also attacked; in Dnipro, a business center; and in other cities and regions, civilian facilities, businesses, and communications infrastructure were targeted as well. Sadly, people have been killed… My condolences to their families and loved ones. Russia will definitely face a response to this. And every one of Ukraine’s partners must see from this terror, from these strikes, that supporting Ukraine means truly supporting people’s lives – supporting the principle that terror must never be normalized, anywhere. Russia must be held accountable for all of this and face real consequences. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine!
