Well that's awesome.
Eric Lu, a PhD from Harvard, just cracked RSA-260 (860 bit), setting a new world record for the largest factorized RSA key.
The last time this happened was in 2020 when a group of mathematicians broke RSA-250 (829 bit).
This step up is MASSIVE and just goes to show that the breakthroughs threatening our most critical systems could happen at any time. Better that we prepare for them now than be caught off guard when they happen.

Introducing the new and improved Open Quantum whitepaper!
The platform has evolved greatly since its launch in December and it seems fitting that our whitepaper be updated to reflect these changes.
We've expanded on the paper substantially, diving deeper into the architecture, integrations, and Open Quantum Edge.
This paper is also published with an official DOI on Zenodo. We're thrilled to release the paper in this way, not only to inform the existing Bittensor community, but also to engage the broader scientific community and bring them into the ecosystem.

🚨MILESTONE SOLVED🚨
Milestone 3 of Breaking RSA (w/@terraquantum_ag) has been broken!
Congrats to 5HDyKD…NNGSNK for being the first to solve 480-bit RSA.
Their solution builds on the 460-bit GNFS solution, optimizing operations to drastically speed up candidate selection and sieving. The solution runs in just 3.8 hours, which is actually FASTER than the previous solution on the smaller 460-bit key.
More impressively, they timed their submission to go through while we were streaming QBTLL so we could announce it live 😉

Their solution builds on the solution from Milestone 1 and adds Unswap — a bidirectional matrix product optimizer absorption technique that actively finds and applies qubit swaps to reduce bond dimension while consuming the circuit.
