Cybersecurity firm VulnCheck just revealed that over 100,000 Chinese-made Zbtlink routers contain factory-installed backdoors capable of secretly hijacking network traffic. Named Darklantern and Speakingstone, these covert implants give remote operators unauthenticated root control over devices deployed worldwide. Jacob Baines, chief technology officer at VulnCheck, discovered the hidden code while analyzing firmware on a white-labeled router purchased right here in the United States. The compromised hardware, manufactured by Shenzhen Zhibotong Electronics, is rebranded and sold under dozens of common commercial labels across Amazon, Shopify, and Alibaba. One of the implants was caught silently harvesting credentials, executing remote commands, and redirecting web traffic. When Baines registered an unused server domain tied to the code, nearly 400 unique routers immediately checked in from across the globe. Zbtlink spokesperson Michael Xia claims these features are merely legitimate tools intended for authorized customer maintenance. However, security experts warn that shipping unencrypted, hardcoded surveillance capabilities into consumer hardware leaves every connected network completely vulnerable.

The FBI is warning the public about sexual exploitation actors targeting adult and underage victims by illegally accessing their social media accounts to steal their explicit content and post it for sale on criminal marketplaces. Read our new #PSA for details on the tactics used to gain access to victim accounts, including password/PIN targeting, social media support impersonation via SMS/text messages, and phishing emails. Key tips to protect yourself: ➡️ Avoid storing sensitive images or videos on social media platforms. ➡️ Use unique passphrases and multi-factor authentication and avoid using password information that is directly associated with your identity. ➡️ Be cautious with embedded links in emails and texts—verify sender and purpose before clicking—and treat unrequested temporary passwords, PIN resets, or access codes as suspicious. The #FBI and its partners are warning industrial control system owners and operators about an active cyber threat targeting Siemens S7 Series programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and are recommending immediate steps to reduce the risk of compromise. The threat actors are using scanning services to find internet-exposed PLCs that are running outdated software or are otherwise poorly protected. The @FBI, @NSAGov, @CISAgov, @ENERGY and @EPA urge owners and operators of critical infrastructure to proactively check their systems and review our new Joint Cybersecurity Advisory for technical details and key mitigations: ic3.gov/CSA/2026/260819.pdf

The @FBI, @NSAGov and @US_CYBERCOM have issued a Joint Cybersecurity Advisory to warn organizations about cyber threat activity by the China-linked hacking group QTFY. Since 2018, QTFY has developed malicious tooling, traded malware and exploits within freelance hacking networks, created an obfuscation botnet, and targeted critical systems in the United States—to include telcos, higher education, government agencies, and the defense industrial base. We urge network defenders to review the advisory for TTPs and IOCs associated with QTFY and implement our recommended mitigations 👉 ic3.gov/CSA/2026/260826.pdf
