🚨#Bitcoin will go to zero as the U.S. government phases out the elliptic curve algorithms it uses. If Bitcoin doesn't transition to #quantum-resistant, it will inevitably cause irreversible losses to investors. 😭

I had no idea when we started working on this that the vision of Microcrypt - built on the idea to construct computationally secure quantum cryptography, including bit commitments, from quantum pseudorandomness that could persist even if P=NP rules out classical one-way functions - would suddenly become so interesting.

Made Bitcoin 100x harder to crack for a quantum attacker. Stupid simple: force it to solve 100 keys instead of one within 10 min block time.
No fork, no new opcodes, no direct-to-miner relay.
Multisig was designed to distribute trust, we reuse it to multiply the computational work required to forge a Bitcoin spend.
Runs on Bitcoin Core today.

On the cat qubit factoring paper: as with most of Élie's estimates, it comes down to whether you buy the insane upfront assumption. This time the assumption is LITERALLY ZERO bit flip errors. The algorithmic work looks good, the conclusion follows, but brother what a premise.
Wow! 😮😓
“Bitcoin, Ethereum and most blockchains aren’t secure either, about 30,000 qubits would be needed to crack a Bitcoin key in about an hour ₿ ⏳”
Breaking RSA-2048 with 23,000 cat qubits. 🐈 In 3.14 days
This is the finding of our new paper, the latest resource estimate for Shor’s algorithm, the benchmark the whole field uses to compare quantum hardware 📄
The results are a record low for total quantum resources at this speed of execution, about 40 times fewer physical qubits than @GoogleQuantumAI 's Craig Gidney 2025 estimate. 🏁
RSA-2048 is the lock behind secure websites, banking and software updates 🔐 Shor's algorithm has been able to break it, on paper since 1994. Nobody has built the machine yet, but every year the estimate of how big it needs to be gets a little smaller.
In 2019, the best estimate was 20 million qubits. In 2024, ours was just under 100,000. Now 22,593, in 3.14 days. Yes, pi 🥧
Small isn't enough. Fast isn't enough. The new study optimizes for both. 😼
Bitcoin, Ethereum and most blockchains aren't secure either, about 30,000 qubits would be needed to crack a Bitcoin key in about an hour ₿ ⏳

If you're putting me on stage to kick off a conference, I may be starting a couple of fights with the discussion topics.
Had a lot of fun hosting the whole PQC+IQT track in NYC this week (and for letting me open the agenda by asking how cooked we actually are on post-quantum cryptography)!
👀A few years ago, I attended a lecture on cryptography.
A college student sitting next to me was chatting with his friends. I overheard him say that quantum computers would eventually break Bitcoin.
He went on to say that quantum-resistant cryptocurrencies would replace Bitcoin. He even said he wanted to find a quantum-resistant cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin. He described this as the beginning of a new era: the search for treasure!😂
I was genuinely amazed by how forward-thinking he was. Even though I already knew about the quantum threat to Bitcoin back then, I couldn’t help but admire his vision.
Unfortunately, I’m a bit shy around strangers, so I didn’t join their conversation. Looking back, I wish I had.
Who knows? Maybe we’d be searching for that treasure together right now! 😆🏴☠️
P.S. The speaker at that lecture was one of the world’s foremost cryptographers. 😅

Yr advice is wrong, Mr. Draper @TimDraper
It’s definitely irresponsible or lack of fiduciary duty of care to own bitcoins for any institution or strategy reserve before all total mined-already bitcoin's fully upgrading/migration to completly quantum-safe.

Now! Bitcoin officially is being on its way to be collapsed!
Every quantum-safe crypto even just averagely could be at least $1B USD in middle term view!
Some quantum-safe crypto could be $10B in long term view, or $100B mktcap, or more!

Most likely by 2029-2031.

OPENAI’S AI SAYS IT PROVED THE PHYSICS QUANTUM COMPUTERS ARE BEING BUILT TO SIMULATE
Today OpenAI said its AI produced a rigorous proof that the quantum field theories behind the strong force, QCD and Yang–Mills, actually exist mathematically.
Here’s why that matters for quantum computing.
QCD describes what happens inside every proton and neutron. Physicists have used it for 50 years and it matches experiments extremely well, but it’s so hard to calculate that it’s a major user of the world’s biggest supercomputers. Even then, they can only approximate it.
It’s also one of the problems quantum computers are expected to help with, especially the parts supercomputers can’t do at all, like simulating how particles evolve in real time.
What nobody had ever done is prove the underlying math is consistent. Yang–Mills is part of one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems, with a $1 million prize.
Now the catches.
It’s not the full prize. The problem also requires proving a “mass gap,” and OpenAI isn’t claiming that.
The physics work hasn’t been released, a group led by Nobel laureate David Gross is reviewing it.
If it holds up, AI just proved the math. Quantum computers are still the ones that have to run it.
