LabRat: an offline research assistant for Android. My entry for poidh bounty #31. One 3 GB app: Qwen3-1.7B, 13 openly licensed knowledge packs (Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, CIA World Factbook, first aid, MedlinePlus, Stack Exchange Q&A and more) and local search. No internet permission, no Google Play Services. Answers show their sources. Math and unit conversions are done in code. Flagged health questions with no health source get a fixed safe text and the emergency number, not a guess. On a Pixel 8a (8 GB, airplane mode): median answer 13.9 s, 3.9 GB peak RAM. The honest number, on our own ruler (71 questions vs frontier AI with live web search, two AI judge families, measured on the phone): 0 of 71 wins, and 0.17 (Claude judge) to 0.24 (OpenAI judge), where 0.50 = "half as good". Not half as good YET. What I learned: a small model is only as good as the page you hand it. important update for anyone who is working on or contributing to the poidh Android Local AI bounty 🔊 I want to formalize that submissions should be finalized by Sunday, October 25th, to give each app the best possible chance of being thoroughly and fairly reviewed to clarify, our goal was always to announce a winner by October 31st, not necessarily to keep submissions open for review all the way until that date having all apps finalized by the deadline will ensure there's enough time for proper testing and consideration before contributors weigh in this isn't necessarily a hard cutoff for submitting claims, but anything submitted or updated after the 25th may not have enough time to receive the same level of review before a winner is selected if anyone has questions, please feel free to reach out to me here or via DM! and thank you again to everyone who has made an app, added some ETH, or promoted this bounty, I can't wait to see what we accomplish with it 💙 poidh.xyz/mainnet/bounty/31?…
