CHAT CONTROL 2.0 BLOCKED AGAIN, THANKS TO YOU! What happened yesterday: the @Europarl_EN blocked the deal pushed by the @EUCouncil. The Council wanted: (1) "voluntary" scanning of all private chats under "search plans" approved automatically unless an authority vetoes; (2) administrative authorities, not courts, ordering providers to scan private messages, not limited to suspects, using AI with massive false positive rates; (3) making the failed Chat Control 1.0 mass scanning regime permanent, while admitting it is not effective, as we discussed in my previous posts. Your voice to parliamentarians made a huge difference again: the Parliament refused scanning of private communications, stating it must remain limited to persons linked to child sexual abuse, not everyone by default or under a blanket licence, as Council proposed. The Parliament also closed the back door where "risk mitigation" rules could force providers into scanning under threat of fines. What did pass: a preliminary agreement on scanning publicly accessible content for known child abuse material. This was proposed by the Parliament as the effective, targeted alternative. We still wait for the text to see what this means and will inform you in the coming weeks. This defense proves again: our voice matters when it is vocal, with your support! And we will need it again in November, so please follow the updates. Now, it is important to call or write to your MEP and your government to say thank you to those who stand on the side of privacy. They need to see you are watching their move. Please repost.

HEY @amazon @AmazonMGMStudio I REFUSE to believe that the original creators of #Stargate would have created something that wouldn't have had broad appeal. They are extremely talented people that created one of the biggest franchises in our time. REVERSE this decision! LET THEM SHOW YOU AND US WHAT THEY CREATED. Look at what is happening to Disney Star Wars at the box office right now. Look at how the new Star Trek Academy went. WHY do you keep making the same mistakes?!? IT'S NOT TOO LATE. LET GERO, JOE AND THE OG'S COOK!
Nope. No. Sorry. Gonna have to push back on this. We were ever mindful of creating a show that would have broad appeal.

So, Google Chrome gives all *.google.com sites full access to system / tab CPU usage, GPU usage, and memory usage. It also gives access to detailed processor information, and provides a logging backchannel. This API is not exposed to other sites - only to *.google.com.

Two for the price of one: abusing app store dominance and harming an interoperable IM ecosystem built on XMPP Still potential for notarization to be abused this way. What we need is permissionless sideloading, even if it comes with warnings and isn't as user friendly.
One of the best XMPP clients out there was just removed by @GooglePlay out of the blue. No credible reason, no way to talk to a human to resolve the issue. I hope somebody in my network can get this sorted. gultsch.social/@daniel/11192…

Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) is a new proposed standard that improves encryption and metadata protection for connections online that use TLS for security. After years of testing and refinement, it's finally happening. Chrome has been testing ECH for months, and is now enabling it by default in Chrome 117: chromestatus.com/feature/619…. Firefox is not far behind: elevenforum.com/t/encrypted-…. Cloudflare just launched support for ECH for all customers: blog.cloudflare.com/announci…. These changes amount to the removal of the hostname from cleartext for huge chunk of Internet communication. Considering how long the hostname has been in cleartext and how many products were built around that assumption, it's going to be an interesting rollout.

Super wild to see Googlers celebrate Chrome’s 15th birthday and bragging their part in it RIGHT after they tricked their users into the creepiest ad tracking platform with the darkest of dark patterns. I would be ashamed to be part of that. Values & integrity are liabilities. – at Berlin, Germany

The Online Safety Bill will have its third reading in the House of Lords on Wednesday. From what I can gather, it is expected to pass. This is quite worrying for online safety. A thread.
