I’ve seen Cambridge United lose midweek at Hyde and Southport and Salisbury. I’ve just seen them win at Newcastle, one of the greatest results in the history of the football club. The FA Cup will always be important.

Cambridge United 2-3 Plymouth, game 12 of this season, the first time the U's concede three in a league game since match 2 of the previous season.

U's fall to defeat but even in losing there should be a tonne more positives than negatives. Against less fancied opponents than Plymouth they take something from that, still don't know when they're beaten. Magnificent game to watch, shouldn't be heading home too downbeat.

U’s haven’t played at all poorly, created chances but relied on two big Eastwood saves. Already looking like a game to be decided by a mistake, then Appéré heads in an own goal

Neil Harris: "It just shows where we’re at as a football club. It’s not just about the team, it’s the football club in itself. We didn’t lie down. At 2-0 we could have just downed tools and look forward to Saturday, but we didn’t. Again we found a way."

Neil Harris: "We weren’t at the races tonight. That’s something I’ve got to look at and work out, but ultimately I can’t praise the players highly enough for the desire and determination and the quality to come back and get a point."

The extent to which this Cambridge United side are salvaging results, even on the days when they play really poorly, is quite remarkable. An all time great steal of a point.

Feel like I could copy and paste the half time summary from Saturday. Pretty grim watch, U’s really lacking cohesion going forward and then chucked in a really poorly conceded goal. You’d think they’ll have a harder job turning it round v Wycombe than v Barnsley.

When Cambridge United were relegated out of League One two seasons ago they managed 38 points from 46 games. This time around they’re half way to that tally, 19 points after only playing 10 matches.

This should have been a day to settle for an alright point and move on. This Cambridge United team didn’t. Lavery and Hoddle both major difference makers when they came on. 19 points from 10 games is a spectacular start.

Pretty rough half there. U’s standouts had been Bennett, whose one lapse conceded a cheap corner, and Eastwood who then flapped at it. Barnsley have conceded a lot of goals but not been given a very testing time so far.

A U’s draw against Brighton U21s in their final group game will mean they win the group and get a home tie in the last 32. Will take a loss and big goal difference swing for them to go out in the groups.
