Truly 1 of my all-time faves! Such a character, and such a genuine person, but also a fantastic coach. RIP to a true "one of one." #DaleBrown #collegebasketball #LSUTigers
Very sorry to hear of the passing of legendary LSU basketball coach/character/personality Dale Brown. Absolutely nobody like him in college basketball, before or since. RIP.

I get that the Big 5 is tricky to keep alive. I get that schools need $$ more than ever. I also hate that absolutely nothing matters anymore - not tradition, not fan interest, not commitment to peers, not the greater good - except making money.

Such a natural presence on screen, and so understated--never over-acted. RIP #TomSkerritt #actors #acting
RIP Tom Skerritt. A great actor who had an uncanny ability to show up in the most iconic movies, even if it was with the briefest part. I did a wide-ranging talk with him a few years ago that's still one of my favorite interviews [Gift link]: vulture.com/2021/10/tom-sker…

It's worth watching, especially if you love #dogs. #movies #BradPitt #HeartOfTheBeast
The trades called HEART OF THE BEAST a bomb on opening weekend. It’s at $155M and still running. Never let a Friday headline write a movie’s obituary.

Americans have a "revealed preference" for doing less of basically everything except going online and I have serious doubts that this is making us happier. slowboring.com/p/americans-n…

Still one of the best moments in a business interview ever.

I joined @notthefakeSVP last night and he asked a simple question: Who is the expanded college football playoff for? It will end up being for no one. We care about this sport a lot and we tried to put it into words.

College Football's regular season was the only reason it ever got as big as it got. Killing it won't kill the sport dead immediately. But CFB will never recover from this long-term. CFB is not creating new generations of fans, it's turning off its most loyal ones.

The thing about 24 that bothers me most is… Who is this for? It’s not because TV was begging for it. ESPN had to be convinced. It’s not for a boatload of new cash. Losing conf champ games is gonna make this a minimal gain. It’s not because the 22nd team has any shot at a natty. It doesn’t. It’s certainly not done with the health, safety, or academic success of the players in mind since they don’t even get a say in this. It’s entirely to appease the people donating the money that keeps a financially irresponsible business model afloat. It’s discounting success so schools can say “look what your donation bought.” It’s an industry hellbent on treating investors and bosses as the customer, and customers as an infinite resource that will keep coming back no matter what.

Congrats to the biggest winner of the 24-team playoff: Administrators at also-ran Big Ten and SEC schools who can keep the Ponzi scheme going Why CFP expansion is such a slap in the face: cbssports.com/college-footba…

Tony Petitti arrived at the Big Ten 2023. Brett Yormark arrived at the Big 12 in 2022. Pete Bevacqua arrived at Notre Dame in 2024. Three key administrators in the gutting of college sports as we know it.

“They’re watering down the best regular season in sports so that PJ Fleck can go to the Playoff once every five years instead of getting Duke’s Mayo doused on his head.”
