The phrase 'A Christian presence in every community' is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the C of E. But what does it mean? A building? Clergy? Or something else? @WalkerMarcus

and the Portsmouth diocese strapline ‘Jesus-centred, Kingdom-seeking’ was really attractive. It captures where my heart is, which is as a pastoral evangelist.

Good to see #synod discussing working class vocations. I'm born, raised and proud working class, serving in a working class context. We're proud to have seen working class people from Gosport enter discernment and training for ministry.
While educational deprivation might be a perceived barrier, working class people lack opportunities and support, but usually not academic ability. We need to up the support but not distill the academic elements of formation.
We're grateful to have seen four candidates recommended for training and have six candidates in the discernment process!

My theory is 2020 was the peak following the Renewal and Reform target to grow ordinand numbers by 50 per cent. I suspect this drained the pool somewhat. But so much is projected onto these figures tbh. I don’t think there is a ‘smoking gun’ beyond the big backdrop of decline
Biffy Clyro all over the place vocally, as has so often been the case. A real contrast to Alanis #bbcglastonbury
He is risen! 400+ at Christ Church Gosport for 10 baptisms, of which 4 were young people. Amazing testimonies of the resurrection power of Jesus at work in people's lives.

"Christianity, despite the times when it was on the verge of extinction, has proved surprisingly resilient. Like the dead body of Jesus, whenever people thought they had finished it off and nailed it down, it has shown a surprising capacity to be reborn"

Stanley Hauerwas: "I say in a hundred years, if Christians are known as a strange group of people who don’t kill their children and don’t kill the elderly, we will have done a great thing. I mean, that may not sound like much, but I think it is the ultimate politic...

Growth is allowing someone to create a false narrative of you, while knowing the truth always is revealed one day.
Another wonderful story of HTB network inspired church growth in a low-income area. Praise God!

Wonderful story of church growth on the south coast. Inspired by @joelmennie and the ministry of this HTB network church in a low-income area.
The new life experienced at St Wilfrid Church in Bognor Regis in many ways reflects the story of the first Christian #Pentecost. To hear it all again - or in case you missed it - catch up with this Sunday’s episode on @BBCiPlayer - bbc.in/3ypSNDr
