The @BOENYC released ranked choice voting tallies for New York City primaries last night. City council will more than double number of women to a majority & be its most diverse ever. 3 comeback wins are likely: two elevating women (District 9 & 18) & GOP borough president race.

This year NYC started using ranked-choice voting in local elections. The system is not the easiest to picture; here's my attempt using a recent poll of the mayoral primary.

Eric Adams comes out ahead after 12 rounds of ranked-choice ballots are tallied, according to estimates calculated by FairVote, a non-profit organisation. In the city's new ranked-choice voting system, voters will rank up to five candidates on their ballot. If no candidate has received more than 50% of the vote in the first round, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and their votes are redistributed to voters’ next choice. The rounds continue until two candidates remain. The candidate with the most votes in the final round wins.
