Right. Time to do this a bit early this year for... reasons. If you are a small creator who makes things that would be nice christmas presents, REPLY TO THIS TWEET with: 1) Description of what you make/do 2) Pics if possible 3) Link to how people can purchase. I WILL BOOST YOU

Update: I'm enormous on Mastodon now, one of the main influencers there, over a billion followers; problem solved. If YOU are there please send me your username or whatnot because it doesn't seem easy to find people by name.

Fine, I have @watsoncomedian@mastodon.world now. I will say again, if Twitter does become inactive it seems very unlikely I'll be doing what I do in three years' time. Nonetheless, we go on.

My advice on server selection: 1. Avoid the big ones. At least right now. They'll be getting slammed, and the local feed will be very broad. 2. Run debirdify. It will sure you were people you follow already are. 3. DON'T PANIC. you can move later. Your followers stay followed.

Finally, remember that hashtags are more important as a way of finding content over on Mastodon. They are cross-server. You can pin/follow ones that consistently show stuff you like. If you like history, for example, #histodon is the hashtag for you.

My one-tweet Mastodon starter advice: 1. Pick a server where people are likely to post generally about stuff you're most interested in. 2. Follow interesting people on other servers, who will boost interesting stuff into your home feed. THEY are your algorithm.

Someone has to say it: Elon Musk has lied for 27 years about his credentials. He does not have a BS in Physics, or any technical field. Did not get into a PhD program. Dropped out in 1995 & was illegal. Later, investors quietly arranged a diploma - but not in science. 🧵1/
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The University of Pennsylvania considers Musk to be a graduate of both the economics department and the physics department. "Elon Musk earned a B.A. in physics and a B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. The degrees were awarded on May 19, 1997." -Penn, 2019 snopes.com/fact-check/mus…

Extraordinary.
Fmr Environment Sec George Eustice has spoken about the post-Brexit UK/Australia trade deal in the Commons. He says now no longer a minister: "I no longer have to put such a positive gloss on what was agreed...the Australia deal is not actually a very good trade deal for the UK."

FYI, reporters: Around 3,000+ contractor employees of Twitter were canned last night (totally normal thing to do, btw). How does Twitter have so many contractors? This is where the CONTENT MODERATOR numbers are hidden. They are called “agents” at Twitter.

A post about when I met @MattHancock. It’s very topical as he’s on @imacelebrity and I know many parents like me feel very angry that he’s been allowed to be on the show and receive a vast sum of money in return. I met Matt in his office in early 2020 (1)

Over 1 million people have joined Mastodon since October 27. Between that and those who returned to their old accounts, the number of active users has risen to over 1.6 million today, which, for context, is over 3 times what it was just about two weeks ago!

Seriously, you should be. It’s the cool place for grown ups. It’s akin to walking out of a Wetherspoons because there’s another mass fight going on, and crossing the road to the wine bar which is playing smooth jazz and ambient classics.

This is absolutely not the police's concern. They need to be very careful that they do not in their misguided attempts to influence editorial policy of media organisations end up chilling free speech. Remember, the context is the unnecessary arrest and detention of a journalist
Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd now turns his fire on @LBC. "Your editorial policy needs to reflect on whether or not we want to be part of the problem, which is how Just Stop Oil manage to get their message out there so very successfully."
