Alternating between figuring out how to affordably get more AI compute, a challenge many face, with scrolling through posts of why this is a big bubble about to do a dotcom bust. Is that how it worked in 2000? Everyone saying "this bubble is about to burst", until it finally did?
What EA software engineers thought they'd be like as they make the "difficult decisions" to lead us to utopia, vs what they actually are just trying to keep civilization afloat patching insecure code.
It appears USA frontier AI co's selectively released cyber-capable models to find & fix vulnerabilities. This allowed work coordinating fixes for severe PHP vulns for 2 months. Then open-source caught up & the entire planet started getting hacked by bad actors immediately.
Imagine if US labs didn't have a big head start. Jensen Huang, please explain? Thought this wasn't supposed to happen. All the others dismissing open source AI risks, what happened? I want max freedom but we've got to figure out how to get that without reverting to the stone age.
There's no law that says X is invulnerable, or the banks. If this stuff was happening and social media was down so we didn't know what was happening and numbers in all our bank accounts starting changing, what then? xitter.cf/fiveoutofnine/status/2…
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.
We may never actually be able to purchase this vehicle, but the demo alone was worth it. This is what we need Elon for.
My favorite non-AI investment became an AI stonk this AM & went down 10%, so that's the market sentiment for AI. $VG has big access to nat gas, has GWs of power gen to make it LNG, has industrial property where no one cares to stop it, & is very efficient at building big projects

This would be a killer idea 1-2 years ago, but they were just trying to survive debt payments then. Will it pay off in 7 years? Who cares, this market is going to punish you for borrowing now for profits in 7 years. IMO it's a crazy call option I'll think about in 3 years. BUT...
CEO of Sandisk $SNDK: "It's kind of a China for China story at this point...plenty of room for them to grow into that market before it becomes anything beyond that"
🤦♂️ Says he's bringing long-term thinking & says that. Not paying attention to any other industry for 20 years?
This actually looks really good. I hope it is, we got some real bangers out of the Great Financial Crisis, not much since. And please, fry these EAs they have no clue that history has shown it's the most dangerous, harmful philosophy ever.
Seems the problem is there's a bunch of professionals who were being paid to NOT solve math problems. Or at least make a meal of it before they did. Try to be in a position to celebrate humanity's wins, and if you find yourself on the wrong side of that, get back onsides ASAP.
It's happening. Caught a friend mindlessly listening to a new favorite youtuber. It was AI slop. They didn't believe it, video had 8 million views & was published 2 days ago. Void of original thought, but was a comforting ethnic lady. Today normies can't tell, in a year I won't.
My base case was that the rest of the market would end up turning around and getting bullish, pulled by AI stocks, but with this headline looks like we might be due for another multi-week or month AI pullback. Or everything has already been priced in, buy the dip, etc. IDK
Imagine if AI cures all the cancers, and a group of doctors gets together to write an indignant statement condemning it
