Hi twitterverse. Friday was my last day at the Omaha World-Herald. I’m sticking around town, but I’m leaving the world of journalism for now.
I grew up reading the paper with my parents, and I delivered it to front porches in my neighborhood in middle school. (1/3)
.@ceditor is one of the hardest-working, most empathetic people I know. Her guidance & careful thinking were invaluable. Approached every story she touched with a careful eye & compassion. Lee's decision on her and @randyessex = heartless, greedy, short-sighted, & a bad biz move.
Our statement on @LeeEntNews heartless & seemingly thoughtless decision today to can two of our top editors.
My name appeared 2x today in the @OWHnews.

And finally, Omaha's public library system is in store for some big changes ahead -- and the city may partner with a nonprofit whose donors have funded some of Omaha's biggest civic projects as it develops the library plan.

Back then, I loved learning about everything happening in my city, or stumbling onto a really great story. As an intern in 2016, and again when I rejoined the paper in 2019, I was starstruck by the kind, talented, caring people who continue to put out vital local journalism (2/3)

Douglas County could press forward on implementing an indoor mask mandate without the state’s backing. But NE law says that kind of public health measure is subject to state approval, and state officials have warned of a lawsuit.

And Lincoln has a mask mandate again. Comes as the Douglas County Health director has asked the state for permission to order a mandate in Omaha.
As of last week, Omaha City Council said they were not pursuing one.
Stothert today: "I do not support another mask mandate."
#LNK bringing back its mask mandate. Everyone 2 and up will have to wear them in indoor spaces. In effect at least until Sept. 30.
The best birthday gift from the best reporter and friend :)

Douglas County Health Director Lindsay Huse says she is seeking a mask mandate for the Omaha metro area.
Last week, Huse said she was told by Nebraska state officials that a move to issue a mask mandate would be challenged by the state.
Replying to @CHRISBURBACH
Huse says she has sent a request to state DHHS for a directed health measure temporarily requiring masks for most people over 5 years old in most indoor settings in Douglas county
Here's @JulieAnderson41's story from last week on the possibility of a state challenge:

The county wide mask mandate could take effect tomorrow if the state approves, Huse says. From right here that seems like a pretty big “if,” as just last week she said state officials had told her they would sue to block a Douglas County mask mandate

Neighbors along Farnam Street from Saddle Creek to Elmwood Park have long called for an end to the sometimes-one-way, sometimes-two-way rules that govern the stretch of road.
With UNMC development on the way, the city is moving ahead with plans to make it a permanent 2-way:
The City of Omaha's capital spending plan earmarks $100,000 to make detailed designs in 2022 and budgets another $2 million in 2023 to install the changes on Farnam Street.
