Transforming traditional views laid by “CNS immune privilege,” our research uncovers the brain’s purposeful presentation of self – that is the brain engages with the immune system through “guardian” peptides to ensure immune tolerance. @jonykipnis

I'm excited to share with you the publication of my PhD/Postdoc project. A long journey with protagonist Foxg1, a transcription factor, and its new layer of gene expression regulation via the translational control, in neocortical neurons. Enjoy the read! bmcbiol.biomedcentral.com/ar…

How do enhancers work over distances that sometimes exceed megabases? Excited to share our work led by @gracecbower where we uncover a unique sequence signature globally associated with long-range enhancer-promoter interactions in developing limb buds: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… 1/

Would you believe me if I told you that a single variant in a non-coding RNA explains ~0.5% of all undiagnosed individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) in @GenomicsEngland ???
I didn’t initially either, but here is the story of RNU4-2 🧵1/9
Thrilled to share our latest discovery on a spliceosomal snRNA gene causing neurodevelopmental disorders: medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Thank you to everyone who contributed; it’s been a phenomenal effort to collaborate with clinicians and researchers for what would help many families!

This is so cool - a remarkably frequent mutation in a non-protein-coding RNA gene, which causes around one in every 200 currently undiagnosed cases of developmental delay around the world (including 8 Australian families so far!). A couple of thoughts (1/3)

Yes new independent evidence that translation can be positively modulates by antisense RNAs, containing some effector domain like SINEUPs or IRES. Good to see independent labs developing variants of our technologies!
Pleased to see the principles described in “Internal Ribosome Entry Site sequences act as Effector Domain in linear and circular antisense long non-coding SINEUP RNA” biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… are independently validated in nature.com/articles/s41467-0… SINEUP technology works worldwide!

Are promoters just landing pads for the transcriptional machinery? No! They can be key regulatory centers during development. Vivek Ramalingam shows this in some beautiful new work published in @NatureComms.
