I wholeheartedly condemn the detention by Israeli authorities of @bradlander and dozens of American rabbis and advocates who were peacefully helping Palestinian farmers harvest their olives in the occupied West Bank.
Standing with farmers to protect their land and livelihood should not lead to detention, and all those still held must be released immediately. The U.S. must speak up for human rights, dignity, and accountability!
Congressional candidate Brad Lander says in a post on X that he was detained in the occupied West Bank by the IDF while participating in an olive harvest. nbcnews.com/politics/politic…
Every American deserves to worship without fear, and that starts with leaders who lower the temperature instead of raising it.
I stand with my colleague @RepRaja, his family, and every Hindu and Indian American family in Illinois.
This month, we not only celebrate breast cancer survivors, but make strides towards prevention and early detection.
Feel free to check out verywellhealth.com/symptoms-… for more information on how to detect the signs early!

Today at LaSalle Street Station, I joined Metra to unveil North America’s first battery-powered trainset, backed by $169.3M in federal funding. 🚆⚡ The South Side and south suburbs deserve clean, reliable transit, and I’ll keep fighting to bring it home.

Pope Leo XIV is one of our own, a Chicago kid who carried the values of our neighborhoods all the way onto the world stage, and today our whole city is wishing him strength and a full recovery.
Let his diagnosis also be a reminder to talk with your doctor about lung cancer screening, because catching it early saves lives.
Chicago is with you.
New apps go live every day, and some of the people building them are sitting in classrooms on the South Side and in our south suburbs right now.
If you’re a middle or high school student in the First District with an idea, we want to see what you can do! Submissions are due Monday, October 26 at 11 a.m. at congressionalappchallenge.us, let’s show America what the First District can build!

The President spent months demanding that a Black, Muslim, immigrant Congresswoman be investigated, and now federal agents are at her door.
That isn't justice running its course, it's a warning shot to everyone who refuses to stay quiet.
I stand with @Ilhan!
BREAKING: Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C.-area residence was searched early Monday, the Department of Justice said, as part of a criminal investigation.
Sources tell ABC News that the investigation relates to Omar’s immigration paperwork.

Today we celebrate the first peoples of this land and the Native families across Chicagoland whose history, culture, and strength continue to shape who we are.
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

Mike Ditka was Chicago through and through, a Hall of Fame player and the coach who brought this city its only Super Bowl title, and he did it with a toughness every Bears fan saw in themselves.
My deepest sympathy goes to his family and to everyone bleeding navy and orange today.

What Hasan did at Fort Hood was evil and nothing excuses it, but a government that streams executions for public consumption is borrowing from the playbook of regimes like Iran.
America should show the world what the rule of law looks like, not put death on a livestream.
The U.S. military plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the ex-Army major who was convicted of the 2009 killing of 13 people at Fort Hood, when he faces a firing squad on Dec. 3, a Pentagon official said.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier Thursday the Pentagon planned to make the execution public.
Hasan's case could mark the military's first execution of an American service member since 1961.
Happy heavenly 85th birthday to my father, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson.
From a segregated library in Greenville to the national stage, my father spent his life insisting that everybody is somebody, and that belief still guides the work I do for the First District every single day.
This is our first birthday without him, and we carry his fight forward with love.

A new USDA rule taking effect November 4 could cost roughly 5,000 grocers in underserved areas their SNAP authorization, and retailers still haven't received the guidance to comply. Because of that, my colleagues and I are URGING USDA to delay it before families lose their nearest store.
Closing the only store in the neighborhood isn't improving food access, it's ending it!
Democracy only works when people can raise their voices in the streets, and at the ballot box, without fear of reprisal.
The people of Pakistan deserve free and fair elections, and I'm proud to stand with them!

Chatham is a gem, a proud and hardworking neighborhood built by public servants, working families, and people who sacrificed to make a home here. My heart is with Edimari’s family, and I joined @OmarJimenez with @CNN to make sure the country understands what this community will need in the months ahead.
Healing takes counselors, clinics, and crisis care, and H.R.1’s Medicaid cuts put that care at risk for up to 500,000 Illinoisans right when families like these need it most. That is not the future Chatham deserves, and I will keep fighting in Washington until every family here can get the care they need.
As of today, the Big UGLY Bill's cuts to SNAP and Medicaid are hitting home for families across IL-01. If you or someone you love lost benefits or coverage, call (800) 843-6154 for SNAP or 1-877-805-5312 for Medicaid.
Be sure to share this so no one in our district is left without help!
Major changes are coming on Oct. 1 for the tens of millions of Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for food assistance from the federal government.
