The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world. Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people – and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.

Pretending racism is over – a favorite pastime of the United States – does not make it so. As much as we'd like to imagine progress being made since the Civil Rights Movement (or since the Civil War, for that matter), we ignore reactionary elements at our peril. #tbt

Beloveds, #SlateSpeak is considering moving (or at the very least adapting) as Twitter becomes less and less of a stable place to host. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

#DevastatingDevotion brings you: #WeirdChristianity. (And we mean 'weird' as a compliment!) Every so often we'll switch from the devastating to the otherwise fascinating -- like how medieval Christian anchorites would start their ministry as though they were actively dying.

Today is the anniversary of the lynching of George Floyd. While we still mourn his death, that should not be our sole focus. What we need to look at is what his death has told us as a society. It has revealed the ongoing pandemic of white supremacy manifested in policing.
