Max Strus says making the NBA required him to accept he doesn’t have a bag anymore and that shooting got him on the floor but defense would keep him out there “I don’t have a bag. I used to have a bag back in college, but I don’t anymore because you find what your niche is and you just go at it.” “I knew shooting the basketball was going to get me on the floor, and then I knew playing defense was going to keep me on the floor. I’ll guard the best player. I don’t care. They’re going to score on me because everybody’s that good. You can’t really stop anybody anyway.” “So it’s like, how can I make it as tough as possible on them? I don’t need to shoot the ball. I’m all right. I can do other things that I know are helping the team win. How can I make Donovan Mitchell better? How can I make James Harden better? How can I make Jarrett Allen better?” “If I feel like I haven’t gotten a shot, it’s like, all right, go crash the offensive rebound and get it. I’m not going to sit here and cry to myself about not shooting the ball or not being involved. Make yourself useful.” “My first couple years [in Miami], I don’t think I dribbled the ball once. Come off a handoff and shoot, come off a screen and shoot, and then defend and rebound. That’s all I did.” “As you continue to build more confidence within the team, within the coach, they put you in positions where, all right, now I can do a little bit more.” “You’ve got to have the humbleness to humble yourself to, ‘I’m not that guy anymore. I can’t be that guy anymore.’ But then be ready for the opportunity when it does come, ‘No, I could still be that guy. That’s just not what we need right now. But when we do, I got you.’”

A great sign of wisdom & maturity is knowing that everything doesn’t deserve your response. A great sign of growth & discipline is not giving everything your response. #LeadYourselfWell

To all athletes: Be the player who wants to be coached. Learn to embrace constructive criticism. Great coaches push you because they see your potential and believe you’re capable of more. The day a coach stops coaching you is often the day they’ve stopped believing in you. 💯

To every athlete: Know who’s in your inner circle. Very few people truly want what’s best for you. Trust the ones who’ll still be there when the basketball stops bouncing - not the ones who only show up because of what you can do for them today. Choose people who are invested in your future, not your value.

Giannis says he showed up EARLY to work out with Kobe, and the Black Mamba made him pay for it “Working out with Kobe, I showed up before him. I love that I did it, but it was a mistake” “Kobe came and said, ‘What are we gonna do?’ I said, ‘Whatever you tell me to do.’ He said, ‘Go right, make 25.’ I usually make four or five. I said, ‘Yeah… make 25.’ I made 25. ‘Okay, go left, 25.’ Then, ‘Go right, two dribbles’” “We worked out for two hours, intense, and I’m thinking, I shouldn’t have shot before this, I’m tired, I wanted to show him my best version” “But here’s what players won’t do today: they won’t be vulnerable. They won’t show weakness, or show appreciation to somebody better. If you always think you’re the best, you can never learn” “I had my notebook, I asked a lot of questions, he answered every single one, and never made me feel like we were running out of time. It was one of the best experience in my career”

I thought this was mainly a Europe thing where the owner comes and talks to the team before the playoffs and big games. The only difference here is in Europe they replace the statement “I think you can win “with you better win lol
WOW! #Knicks owner James Dolan gave a championship performance here! He even promised the players significant others rings too! Via @Roommates__Show

Fans, parents, maybe even your assistants won't necessarily understand this, but as the head coach, your highest loyalty lies with the team. "You disappoint people. It comes with the territory... Your loyalty is to each of your players, but your ultimate loyalty is to the team."

Great for players to hear. @dallasmavs coach Jared Dudley how to impact winning in a world that is obsessed with scoring: 🔒 Defend Multiple Positions 🛞 Drive and Kick Decision Making 🎯 What's Your One Outlier Trait? Social media glorifies the 20+ point per game scorer. But most teams already have one, or two of those guys. What they’re really searching for are the players who dominate in the margins: boxing out, sprinting back, diving on the floor, the second effort, the winning habit repeated over and over again. Your value isn’t determined by how many minutes you get. It’s determined by what you do with the minutes you've earned. Because that impact creates trust. And that trust creates opportunity. And the players who consistently help the team grow usually end up growing themselves.
