Besides joining the event's publicity efforts, it's important for people to remember how close KY was to a crippled tbred industry & obliteration of its struggling harness industry until a bipartisan effort in the 2021 General Assembly passed legislation to protect historical horse racing. That is what has made KY the premier Tbred circuit in America & sparked the underreported resurgence of the standardbred breeding & racing programs. But I watched those HHR votes on @KET, and we came close to losing thousands of jobs and many millions in agribusiness dollars, including a big hit to tourism. On both sides of the aisle, those who led the charge to protect horse racing need to be remembered and recognized for the good things happening now. Did KY Rep. Matt Koch envision in 2021 where the KY tbred and standard industries & their ec impact would be today, inc the @BreedersCrown coming to @TheRedMile next year? Not really. Who had time to dream? Koch was too busy working to pass the bipartisan #HHR legislation that kept those job-heavy industries from series damage or obliteration. Today, he says of the bill's passage, "It gave us that year-round circuit in the thoroughbred industry, and look what it's done for #TheRedMile, and now we've got the #BreedersCrown coming in. Your farms are expanding, the mares are coming in. Withe broodmares come the jobs. And we've got a new QH track. It all ties together. I look at it as all horses.
