Take my money.
Wait wait wait there are official UK Parliament Christmas PJs?!?!?
Your move, @OurCommons @SenateCA @LibraryParlCA - give the people what they want!!!
Incidentally, suspension of the rules traditionally only required a simple majority in the Senate. They decided to nuke that in 1915, in large part relying on the fact that the House and other legislatures required a two-thirds majority.
I've often said the Senate is slowly becoming more like the House (derogatory)
Here's a rules change proposal from Daines & Merkley to quite literally make it like the House daines.senate.gov/wp-content…
The Senate has made a real mess of this.
1. They forgot to withdraw the committee-reported amendment and have just ignored it.
2. When cloture was invoked, the chair forgot to rule out of order the pending motion to recommit. (The Record incorrectly lists it as still pending.)
Votes scheduled: At 10:45am, on Thursday, September 24th, the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes on the following:
1. Adoption of Cruz-Cantwell substitute amendment #6776 to Cal. #449, S.4668, Protect College Sports Act of 2026.
2. Motion to invoke cloture on Cal. #449, S.4668, Protect College Sports Act of 2026, as amended, if amended.
???
I guess it’s nice that they remembered, but this really is not how it’s supposed to go. The committee-reported amendment should have been disposed of before Thune offered any floor amendments. If they wanted to tidy things up, it would have been better to do it by UC.
This law caused some issues in the House too.
New: An internal battle is boiling over between Rep. Kevin Hern and Sen. Alan Armstrong about who gets to serve out the remainder of the term after the election
Yesterday, Oklahoma state Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton requested an AG opinion on the matter.
Hern's team believes that state law says that if they win the election they get sworn into the Senate in November.
Armstrong's team believes they get to serve until January because they argue he was appointed to fill out the remainder of the term. Additionally he wants to stay until permitting reform is done.
Armstrong's attorney sent a letter to Gov. Kevin Stitt on Sept. 11 asking that he request an AG opinion on the matter. Sources say Stitt has not yet requested an opinion.
Hern has hired prominent Oklahoma attorney Glenn Coffee to help with any challenges.
