If you've been around in the space for even a week, you probably know what @pudgypenguins is and what they do. And chances are you've seen their GIFs in group chats with friends, and their plushies at your local Target, even before you got to know about them. As a web3 marketer, and more importantly a degen, pudgy penguins have always held a special place in my heart because of the IP they've managed to build, spanning across the world. I wasn't around during the BAYC and punks era of web3. I entered the space in 2023, when rocking a pudgy penguins pfp gave you a feeling of pride. For me, more so than bitcoin or eth, pudgys are synonymous with web3 because: - they are the best example of community building and commitment in web3, showing what this space offers if your execution is right - they make me hopeful that whatever happens to the world, the human species will be able to survive it if we stand together A lot of that traces back to @LucaNetz. He took over the collection in 2022 for 750 ETH, at a point where the community had been let down and trust was gone. And then he spent the next few years building an IP that now sits on retail shelves next to brands that have been around for decades, and he did it while keeping the community at the centre of every decision. I've studied a lot of brands since I joined @surgence_io, but I haven't come across a better case study in this industry. The more I delved into the lore behind these pudgys, the more I wanted to be a part of this community of dreamers and believers. Which is why I'm happy to announce today that I recently saved up enough to buy my very own lil pudgy. Being a nerd who's a sucker for tech products, I can tell you that the joy I felt buying my pudgy doesn't come close to any of my other purchases. I am my pudgy, and my pudgy is me.
