I have bad news about out of plane bending on the legs...
Hexapod with 200 lb payload capacity. Took Claude an hour to design, complete with parts list and link to OSH Cut to buy the parts.

WOPR?
Found this listed in a government surplus auction recently. No meaningful description, just that it had something to do with military simulations in the 1980s. Located in Colorado Springs.

if you're wondering how dire robotics manufacturing in the US is: in the last 2 months there have been 3 robotics startups launch that just wrap a Unitree G1

Space is just going to keep happening faster I suppose.
SpaceX's annualized revenue is now about twice NASA's budget.

Lol it's just some spotlights from ground to ground... Neither reflection nor orbital.
JUST IN: A California space startup has illuminated a section of desert near Mount Whitney at night, demonstrating how future satellites could deliver sunlight to Earth on demand. Reflect Orbital conducted the October 10 test using powerful ground-based spotlights to simulate sunlight redirected from orbit by large reflective mirrors. Working with China Lake Mountain Rescue, the company illuminated terrain across roughly three miles, allowing rescue teams to conduct nighttime searches, stretcher carries and other emergency-response exercises. Reflect Orbital ultimately wants to deploy satellites capable of directing sunlight toward specific areas on Earth after sunset, potentially supporting emergency operations and extending electricity generation at solar farms. The company received FCC authorization in July for its first experimental satellite, Eärendil-1, which will use an 18-meter reflector to test the concept from orbit. The October demonstration used ground-based lighting. No orbital mirror has yet demonstrated the proposed capability.

FPV was a bit more pricey back then. Honestly way easier to pilot an FPV drone than trying to maintain visual orientation from the ground when you're doing any yawing manuvers.

I remember doing a similar project. I designed, machined and assembled my first drone in a single day, then flew it. In 2013. It was all off the shelf stuff even back then. Pretty wild how scope creep can get ya. Wonder how to stop AIs from going down rabbit holes.

Learning to fly a drone with the first one you've built is an experience too lol.

He's right it's really cool looking.
Wow it looks so cool to disrupt nocturnal life and the natural rhythm of Earth.

The amount of work to make this not immediately kill everyone on board is likely remarkable Requirements driven by worship of fighter pilots.
Want to know something fun? The first time a human will be in manual control of Starship HLS is in the event the autopilot landing system fails. Unlike Apollo- there’s no (current) plans to have humans manually prefly Starship; perhaps just before landing but to be seen.

I should really cancel my fusion license. I don't wanna deal with an audit and I can probably vibecode CAM for my 3 axis in a couple afternoons.
holy hell. i had no idea autodesk could do this: if you use fusion they can force you to install arbitrary software of their choosing to snoop on your computer and you’re legally required to comply within 15 days this is insane

This is what people would say after evil Knievel would jump over a bunch of cars on a motorcycle. But now we all jump over a bunch of cars on a motorcycle on our way to work everyday. Goes to show If you listen to the naysayers stuntman city will never become a real place.
People don’t understand how impractical the flying Roadster is. If another car gets caught under the thrusters, it would experience the same force as the Roadster’s weight. That’s why they had to flip during this maneuver, to protect other cars from the thrusters.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Thrusters eject gas with momentum equal to lift (Newton's 3rd), but the plume expands and dissipates like helicopter downwash. Cars below get spread pressure, not full weight force. Flip is a stunt demo, not needed to protect cars underneath. x.com/PalmerLuckey/s… x.com/Swole_Medic/st… pilotswhoaskwhy.com/2024/01/29/und…
