🚨 STOP BIG CHICKEN CHOKING OUR RIVERS Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy has landed on @NetflixUK , exposing the hidden costs of our obsession with cheap chicken. Here in the UK, our rivers are already paying the price. Every year, more than 1 BILLION chickens are reared in the UK, producing 3.5 million tonnes of manure. In many areas, there's already more waste than the land can safely absorb. When rain washes this pollution into rivers, it fuels toxic algal blooms, kills wildlife and damages precious habitats. ✍️ TAKE ACTION. Tell the Government to ditch its Poultry Growth Plan and support farming that protects our rivers instead of polluting them. SIGN THE PETITION: bit.ly/4w9IRGm

A glimpse of our Monday. We travelled from the Wye Valley to Westminster to lobby our MPs and ask them to challenge the government’s proposed Poultry Growth Strategy. This plan is being dreamed up (nightmared up 🧟‍♂️) by Defra and the Big Chicken lobby without community engagement

🚨 THAMES WATER: ENOUGH TALK. TIME FOR ACTION. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reportedly ordered officials to rethink plans for rescuing Thames Water. Good. But Thames Water doesn't need another bailout for wealthy investors. It needs a fresh start through Special Administration. The Government MUST put people and rivers before private profits. It's time to end the cycle of debt, pollution and failure. EMAIL THE PRIME MINISTER. Tell the Government: Don't prop up a system that has already failed. Use Special Administration to secure a better future for Thames Water. 🔗 Take action now: riveractionuk.com/email-andy… #ThamesWater #SpecialAdministration #RescueOurRivers

🚨 £5 BILLION SPENT. BUT IS THE THAMES ANY CLEANER? Despite London's £5bn Thames Tideway Tunnel being built to tackle sewage pollution, independent testing by @ReachBoat has found no clear improvement in E. coli levels. Led by Chief Executive Adam Freeman-Pask, the club has been testing the Thames weekly, with shocking results: 💩 62.5% of water samples taken since February 2025 exceeded E. coli levels considered a human health risk. 👏 Huge thanks to Adam and his team for their vital work exposing the reality of pollution in the Thames. ✊ TAKE ACTION: Over 5,000 people have already emailed the Prime Minister demanding Special Administration for Thames Water. 👉 Add your voice. 🚨 Water companies have made at least £1.4 BILLION from industrial wastewater in six years. Our investigation with @Watershed_i reveals: 💰 Water companies reported £336 million in trade-effluent revenue in 2025/26 alone, with reported revenues almost doubling since 2020/21. 🏭 607.6 billion litres of industrial wastewater was consented to enter sewage treatment works last year. That’s enough to fill around 242,000 Olympic swimming pools! This wastewater can contain substances including PFAS, cyanide, mercury and pharmaceuticals. These chemicals enter our waterways and contaminate sewage sludge, which is spread on our land and used to grow our food. Yet there is no independent regulator overseeing individual trade-effluent consents and no central national register. 🔎 Read our full investigation and uncover the hidden industrial wastewater trade: 👇 riveractionuk.com/news/water…

✅ Andy Burnham is right: the public deserve more control over the water companies we all depend on. But a ten-year transition cannot mean ten more years of delay. Thames Water is the immediate test. Government already has powers to act on Thames Water and put it into Special Administration But Special Administration isn't the end of the story - it paves the way for a better one. 📩 Email Andy Burnham today and tell him: put Thames Water into Special Administration without delay 👉 riveractionuk.com/email-andy…

MORE CHICKEN. SAME OLD SH💩T. The Government wants to expand intensive poultry farming. Their plan for all the extra waste? Good question.. 🤔 Our rivers are already choking on chicken poo. Expanding intensive poultry units risks making a dire situation even worse. So as the Labour party gathers for their autumn conference in Liverpool, we’ve been outside on the streets with a simple message: 📢 Serious about cleaning up our rivers? STOP the expansion of Big Chicken Help spread the word. Sign & share the petition and tell the Government to #StopBigChicken 👉bit.ly/4w9IRGm #BigChicken #RiverAction #RiverPollution #Labour

🚨 Thames Water is in crisis. The Government and Ofwat have the power to act. Our new paper, The Thames Water Test, sets out why we’re calling for Thames Water to be placed into Special Administration. We explain how this could stabilise, restructure and reset the company, while creating a route towards a future that puts customers, healthy rivers and long-term resilience first. It’s time to look beyond the failed status quo 👇 riveractionuk.com/news/campa…

For years, Thames Water has been feeding a very greedy tiger. The company has been loaded with billions in debt, while its ageing infrastructure has been starved of investment. Pipes are leaking, sewage pollution is rife, customers are being let down and our rivers are paying the price. But the next chapter for Thames Water doesn't have to be more of the same. The Prime Minister has a choice: prop up the same failed system – or use Special Administration to create the opportunity to rebuild Thames Water to serve customers and protect our rivers, not private financial interests. The Government has the power re-write the Thames Water story. Now it must use it. 👉 Email the Prime Minister today and tell him and his Government: don’t prop up a system that has already failed. Use Special Administration to secure a better future for Thames Water. Read the story: heyzine.com/flip-book/bd7ae2… TAKE ACTION: riveractionuk.com/email-andy… Let’s change the Thames Water story. #RiverAction #ThamesWater #SpecialAdministration #RescueOurRivers

Would you leave the banks of one of the ancient rivers of London looking like a rubbish dump? @EnvAgency would. When they sent investigation teams down to the Aldersbrook earlier this year to threaten local volunteers with two years in jail for restoring the river without permission, they didn’t even bother to look at the the piles of junk and hazardous materials (including oil and fuel) on the abandoned allotment plots next to the river. Even worse, when I asked them to remove the rubbish and restore the brook themselves (given local volunteers aren’t allowed to do it) they refused. So their plan is, apparently, to leave the river to die and to prosecute anyone who dares to try & restore the river. However, local river guardians are not waiting for permission to do what the authorities have failed to do. In the absence of the EA, the local authority or the landowner doing anything about the waste on the banks of the Aldersbrook, we’re going to start cleaning it, ready for the full restoration of this section of the brook later in the winter.

🚨 The Government is running out of excuses on Thames Water. Thames Water has endured years of financial distress, environmental failure and regulatory intervention. Customers and our rivers are paying the price, while creditors continue to shape and control the company’s future. This is precisely the kind of failure Special Administration was created to address. It offers the opportunity for a clean break with the failed financial model and a fundamental reset - rebuilding Thames Water to serve its customers, protect our rivers and deliver for the long term. River Action is calling on the Government to stop propping up the same failed system, reject the creditor deal and prepare to use Special Administration to secure a better future for Thames Water. The Government has the power to act. When will Ministers use it? riveractionuk.com/news/efra-…

🚨 Our water system doesn’t need another layer of bureaucracy. It needs decisive action. Reports suggest mayors could be handed new powers to oversee water companies – potentially bringing greater regional planning and democratic decision-making into the sector. But the big question is: what will these new bodies achieve that existing regulators have failed to deliver? For Thames Water, the crisis is already here. The Government has an existing legal mechanism for dealing with failing water companies: Special Administration. It should use it to create the opportunity to restructure Thames Water around a radically different purpose – serving customers, protecting our rivers and delivering for the public interest, not private financial interests. More oversight won’t rescue our rivers if the same failed system remains underneath it. #EndSewagePollution #RescueOurRivers bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmgr…

🚨 Reservoirs are drying up. Farmers are warning of food shortages. But at least the golf courses are green.. We’re facing a #FreshwaterEmergency. Rivers are running dry, food production is at risk, and demand for water is soaring. Yet more than 140 golf clubs in England have breached their water extraction licences in the past five years. Prosecutions? Zero. Fines? Zero. As water becomes increasingly scarce, we need to get our priorities straight: essential public supplies, sustainable food production and healthy rivers MUST come before non-essential uses. #FreshwaterEmergency #RescueOurRivers theguardian.com/environment/…
