Appreciate the follow-up, and no apology needed for building something. The only issue was the characterization of the comparison. I'm sorry it got so much attention!
I gave the feedback in exactly the same tone and style I would if someone I worked with professionally (at any level) came to me and showed me the work and made the same claims.
I looked at the way you process/drop data in your circbuffer and VT parser and I was suspicious of HOW much you want to sacrifice correctness, so I want to be specific about what "sacrifices correctness" means here, because I think it's more than it sounds.
I'm NOT trying to "mog you" or be mean here, I'm just trying to point out some things you might find helpful, and perhaps help you learn something (if you want).
- A 120 KB plain text file: 137 of 300 lines never exist (e.g. your dropping data that technically fits in your scrollback), and the first visible row is a mid-line cut-off fragment.
- Same file preceded by CSI ?1049h (the alt-screen switch) is dropped, so all 163 surviving rows land on the primary screen and in scrollback.
- A cut inside a truecolor SGR prints `;2;226;54;22m` as text. Similarly, a cut inside an OSC 8 prints the URI as text.
The threshold for this isn't a massive firehose. It's any output over 64 KiB between frames: a `git diff`, a stack trace, `ls -R`, a verbose build. That's ordinary terminal use, almost completely ordinary text.
A terminal is a stateful protocol, as you hopefully know. If a mode change is in the dropped span (alt screen, bracketed paste, mouse tracking, kitty keyboard flags, a scroll region), the app and the terminal disagree for the rest of the session and nothing resyncs them short of a full RIS.
The line-based skipping also can't be made correct even in principle, because terminal state isn't line-local. SGR persists across lines, cursor position depends on every CR/BS/tab/wide char before it, and full-screen apps don't emit newlines at all, they use CUP.
I repeat: none of this is shade. "Greedy, drops data, trades correctness for speed" is fine. It's just a different category from a terminal emulator, and I would highly recommend you do not call it that.
And again, I hope you understand especially at this point, that I'm giving this feedback in an earnest way attempting to educate and help. I would give the feedback the same way to anyone who works with me.
Good luck with your project.

I like to look at claims like this in case I can improve Ghostty. I grabbed your source and immediately spotted the issue: your read loop overwrites a 64 KiB ring. Everything older is discarded unparsed per tick. You're faster because you're not actually terminal emulating.
It means the number isn't a throughput number. In a kitten benchmark run at the rate you're claiming, roughly 6.6 MB arrives per 60 Hz tick and 64 KiB of it gets parsed. You're read(2)-ing 100% of the data and parsing about 1% of it.
There are other minor issues (a small fixed scrollback in a preallocated ring buffer, no grapheme clustering, throwing away data like OSC 8 URIs, etc.), but the major one is simply that you're discarding ~99% of the input.
For plain text, e.g. your cat benchmark, the final screen ends up looking right, but the scrollback is missing 99% of the file and each retained chunk starts mid-line. As soon as there are escape sequences in the dropped spans, your emulator is fully out of sync and invalid: a cut inside a CSI prints the parameters as text, and any SGR, mode, title, or alt-screen change in the gap is just... gone.
FYI, this is why I don't like when people point at refterm as a terminal benchmark. refterm implements a TINY subset of what a terminal emulator must support, it's closer to a fast file reader, not a terminal emulator.
I also don't mean any shade by this. I like to look at technology objectively to try to learn something and improve my own craft and work. So I'm sharing what I found.
I modified your code very slightly to parse on every full buffer (rather than per tick). And the results are attached. Both use main commit in each repo at the time of this post.
Note the graph is in log scale, the discrepancy between performance for things like Kitty images is measured in GB/s.

The Election Commission has filed its reply in the Supreme Court to the petition on how the three-member Commission functions.
27 pages, approved by all three members. Its argument: every decision was unanimous, and a Commissioner’s note is a “suggestion,” not a decision.
Here’s what it addresses, and what it doesn’t.

🇮🇳 🚨 INDIA: AAKASH HEALTHCARE PATIENT DATABASE ALLEGEDLY FOR SALE, 3M RECORDS CLAIMED
A threat actor on a dark web forum is selling a database they claim was stolen from Aakash Healthcare, a multi-specialty hospital in New Delhi, and says it holds about 3 million patient records. The asking price is $10,000.
The actor's sample allegedly includes:
* Patient IDs and registration numbers
* Names, gender and dates of birth
* Addresses and contact details
* Medical reports
⚠️ Analyst Note:
Hospital patient data is often used for medical fraud, extortion and convincing phishing that references real treatment. Patients should be cautious with unexpected calls or messages about their records or bills. The dataset's size and origin have not been verified, and the hospital has not publicly confirmed an incident.
This is an unverified threat-actor claim, NOT confirmation of a breach.

🇮🇳 🚨 INDIA: EVIL MARKHOR CLAIMS BREACH OF INDIAN ARMY SYSTEMS, 15,000+ PERSONNEL RECORDS AND INTERNAL MoD FILES ALLEGEDLY LEAKED
A threat actor using the name Evil Markhor claims it breached systems linked to the Indian Army website under India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) and leaked about 3 GB of internal data.
The actor claims:
* More than 15,000 personnel records with service numbers, ranks, units, contact details, dates of birth, next-of-kin and medical information
* CSD car sanction lists, gazettes and veteran address books
* Internal MoD correspondence
* Dental Corps recruitment dossiers that allegedly contain plaintext passwords
⚠️ Analyst Note:
If real, this exposes serving soldiers, veterans and their families to targeted phishing, social engineering and espionage, and the plaintext passwords could open the door to further access. The same actor name surfaced in an earlier claim against Indian defense firm Bharat Electronics, and hacktivist claims in this space are often exaggerated. The Indian Army and MoD have not confirmed an incident. Unverified threat-actor claim, NOT confirmation of a breach.

Same arguments since the 90s. Make the states compete with each other, turn the CM into CEO of state. Somebody tell them, Govt is not a startup. If you want here is President Obama explaining it vox.com/2016/10/17/13301130/…
'Allow different provinces and states to compete with another like they are a capitalist organisation; CM of the state could operate CEO of the state,' Nikhil Kamath, Investor, Entrepreneur told @rahulkanwal on building India's next economy.

Police brought a man to a Kerala hospital at night to treat a wound on his leg. He picked up a pair of surgical scissors and attacked the 22 year old doctor treating him.
Her name was Dr Vandana Das, from Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam, Kerala.
She was the only child of her parents. She was in the final stage of her MBBS, doing her house surgeon posting at Kottarakkara taluk hospital.
In the early hours of 10 May 2023, police brought in G Sandeep, a 42 year old school teacher. He had caused trouble at home and had injuries on his leg.
Inside the hospital, he first attacked the police officers who had brought him.
Then he turned to Vandana. He stabbed her again and again in the head, neck and back with the scissors.
Hospital staff were locked inside a room. A sub inspector and a home guard who tried to stop him were also injured. The ambulance driver and security staff finally held him down.
Vandana was rushed to a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She died of her injuries.
Doctors across Kerala went on strike.
The Kerala government decided to amend the law protecting health workers.
The Kerala High Court said her death was the result of a systemic failure that cannot be brushed aside as an isolated incident.
Da can you talk about art 19 to your bosses? They seem to have forgotten. Please give them a refresher in Delhi.
Keralam is for all Malayalees.
Malayalees alone will decide the present & future of Keralam. Our food, our culture, our celebrations.
Keralam is part of India. Every Malayalee is an also an Indian.
I agree with CMs sentiment in his post. However legitimate questions arise about political culture thats developing in Keralam-
➡️Why do some people glorify Jinnah - a man who divided of India on basis of religions?
➡️Why do some politicians justify, defend and encourage proscribed Terror organisations like Hamas and their violence?
➡️Why do political parties like Cong and CPM hv political alliances with avowed anti-secular, anti-constitution orgn like JamaatEIslami ?
As much as CM @vdsatheesan twists and turns in the political wind to justify this destructive political culture, let this be clear - the only reason some people think they can get away with insults and insensitive behavior (Dont forget this cafe is named after Kashi - the holy hindu city) is because they get a free-pass (encouragement) from Cong/CPM for this
Imagine CM Keralas tweet and response if someone opens a restaurant named after a Muslim holy city and served Pork ? He will find himself being an Ex-CM or fleeing for his life or both.
I was abused and targeted by @pinarayivijayan for speaking against Hamas radicalisation effort in Keralam.
Art 19 - right to free speech and expression applies to every Indian.
Art 19(2) restrictions to free speech apply to every Indian.
So my advise to CM Satheesan is this - ensure sensitivity and respect to ALL Malayalees equally. Hindus, Christians and Muslims.
Do not encourage anti-India , anti-Hindu insults/discourse/actions/sentiment like Jinnah worship.
In that you will have our support.
But selective secularism and selective talk of communal harmony will make you like every other fake politician before you. And we will resist it. Fully. Everytime.
