ICMYI: @cfibBC data shows that small businesses overwhelmingly prefer focusing on economic growth and public sector efficiency over tax hikes. Important context as the province and many local governments make critical fiscal decisions in the months ahead. #bcpoli

Yes, we've read all the commentary suggesting that the lower small business rate causes firms to stay small. Here are the data that counter this argument - have a close look at figure 5. cfib-fcei.ca/en/research-eco… For some, the argument seems to be that the best way to help small businesses grow is to tax them at the higher rate. We believe raising the small business threshold is a much better approach.
Oh God. Instead of closing the small business preference, as every economist on Earth has recommended, they're going to expand it.

If true, these budget rumours would be a big deal for small business. CFIB has been pushing hard for a reduction in the small business corporate rate from 9 to 6%. In addition, for more than a decade, we've been calling for a lower rate of EI premiums for smaller payrolls. We've suggested smaller firms have their EI rate tied 1:1 with the employee rate, rather than the current 1.4 multiplier. Fingers crossed for Nov 5. nationalpost.com/news/canada…

A multi-party entrepreneur caucus, what a great idea! Would love to see more of this.
Great discussions at this morning’s All-Party Entrepreneurship Caucus on Parliament Hill! CFIB shared the impact of trade tensions and tariffs on #SMEs. Thanks to @mikekelloway, @seblemire, @BradleyVis and the MPs that attended for supporting this important initiative. #CndPoli

These are excellent proposals @BradleyVis and consistent with CFIB’s recommendations. Happy to work with you to move these small business friendly policies forward.
Today, I announced two new Conservative proposals to lower taxes, reduce administrative burdens, and help Canadian entrepreneurs succeed: • Increase the GST/HST small-supplier threshold from $30,000 to $60,000 and; • Increase the federal Small Business Deduction limit from $500,000 to $700,000. Both thresholds would be indexed to inflation, so small businesses aren't penalized simply because operations get more expensive. After years of rising costs, trade uncertainty, and increasingly complicated tax rules, Canadian entrepreneurs deserve a break. That is why Conservatives introduced our Economic Action Plan; because it’s time to make it easier to start a business, grow a business, and create jobs in Canada. #cdnpoli

Big news on the red tape front! The feds are implementing a 2-for-1 rule, eliminating $2 of regulatory burden for every $1 introduced. ✂️ This is a key CFIB recommendation.
It is great to see a new federal red tape reduction strategy which includes several long-standing CFIB recommendations.  The new requirement for regulators to reduce regulatory burden costs by $2 for every $1 added is a significant step forward. Would you look at that, public sector growth massively outpaces private sector growth even on a 2016 (10 yr) basis! Again, the key issue is the rate of growth. Private sector growth is needed to pay for the public sector, no matter how you slice it. 📈
This widely circulated private vs public sector jobs graph isn't right. the timeline is manipulated to 7 years to used the covid employment drop to rig the stats. If you use the standard 10 year time period, as per below, you get 39% public vs 23% private job creation:

2019 is the widely used as the last year before the pandemic and is used to establish a pre-COVID baseline. It's not sensationalism. Even CFIB's own analysis using a 2017 baseline still shows outsized growth. Public sector compensation has more than doubled since then, esp. compared to stagnant private sector growth. cc @JasJohalBC
The question @JasJohalBC should be asking is: why @BizCouncilBC picked a 7 year sample period? Does it align with the NDP in power? No. Is it a standard metric? Also no. It cherry-picks the start date to manipulate the graph to sensationalize the results. The reality is when you dig into the data using a 10 year period, *front line* job growth in the direct public service was 28% over a year while senior management increased 52% over the same period. Front line workers are not causing any bloat. In fact we have an average per capita civil service. Happy to chat and set the record straight anytime @JasJohalBC

This Federal budget, CFIB is asking the government to reduce the all-time-high costs of doing business in Canada as a small firm with these four recommendations. Strengthening these businesses, including CFIB members, will secure Canada’s economy in the face of uncertainty. #CFIBSince1971 #SmallBusiness #SmallBusinessSupport #CanadianSmallBusiness

65% of B.C. businesses are now reporting fuel cost pressures as a major constraint. 📈 That's an increase of 35 points over the previous year—the largest of any province. How much of those costs will be passed on to consumers? Read CFIB's Main Street Quarterly to find out!👇

An important report given the timing of BC’s elections 👇
Pleased to see CFIB's testimony cited a few times in the @SenateCA's new report on SME growth. Many strong recommendations, including a lower small business tax rate and better tax rules for reinvested capital gains. Full report: sencanada.ca/en/info-page/pa…

Want to win over main street this election? Here's what small business owners have been telling us all along. 📣 #bcpoli
92% of B.C. small business owners aren't confident the provincial government has their back. More businesses have closed than opened for five straight quarters. Whoever wins on Oct. 24, these are the five fixes owners are asking for. #bcpoli
