Success should never make you forget who was rooting for you before everyone else started watching. Whether you're a celebrity, an entrepreneur, an artist, or simply someone who has reached a level of success you once dreamed about, never allow accomplishment to erase appreciation. Nobody owes anyone anything. I understand that. But there's something to be said about the people who supported you for 5, 10, 15 years, before certain opportunities, celebrations, accomplishments, followers, recognition, or applause ever came. Sometimes the people who have quietly celebrated you the longest become the easiest people to overlook. I've been doing what I do professionally for 20 years, and one thing I never want to lose is gratitude. I remember the people who opened doors. I remember the people who believed in an idea before it became something. I remember the encouragement, introductions, opportunities, shares, phone calls, conversations, and even the smallest gestures of support. Because despite how much we love the phrase "self-made," I don't believe any of us truly are. You can have the talent. You can put in the work. You can sacrifice, hustle, lose sleep, and refuse to quit. But somewhere along the journey, somebody believed in you. Somebody gave you an opportunity. Somebody invested in you. Somebody recommended your name when you weren't in the room. Somebody bought something, watched something, shared something, listened, showed up, or simply reminded you to keep going. Success may have your name on it, but there are fingerprints from other people all over the journey. For me, this has never been about chasing clout or needing validation. I want what I do to uplift, educate, inspire, and ultimately leave something meaningful behind. That's something my grandmother instilled in me, and something some of my greatest mentors reinforced throughout my life. I know where I came from. I know the environments I had to grow beyond. And I also know I didn't become the man I am today completely by myself. So no matter where life takes me, I hope I always remain humble enough to say thank you, aware enough to remember who showed up, and grounded enough to recognize the people who supported me along the way. You don't have to repay everyone who ever supported you. But success should never make you too important to appreciate them. Never forget the people who were clapping for you before the room was full. 🙏🏽
