In a political environment where CDs weren't gerrymandered to an inch of their lives, you'd be looking at a 60-70 seat swing. Media will focus on the number of seats that change hands to minimize the Dem win as opposed to reporting on R+10 (or more) seats that flip. Watch.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report projects Democrats will most likely flip between 12 and 22 seats in November — potentially giving them bigger majorities than the ones they won during blue waves in the 2006 and 2018 midterms. wapo.st/48bDBbp

Labor MP Clare O’Neil put a post on Facebook about celebrating a toy library’s 40th birthday in her electorate, cutting a cake & thanking the volunteers. It was swamped with ugly hate posts & all from men. Just once it would be nice to read a post from an MP without the vitriol

Just pumping out 190 proof straight up racism and the media will sanitize and sane wash it b/c this is the guy who keeps the lights on in their newsrooms.

I'm glad people are clipping @billmaher now because his entire moderate and liberal audience is now gone, and we'd never see just how much he's prostituted himself for MAGA
I’ve been working on something new. A series of one-on-one conversations with some of the smartest voices covering the Oscars.
These are honest, thoughtful (and occasionally painful) reflections on the films, the wins, the losses and the moments that stay with you.
It’s called Oscar Confidential, and the first episode premieres Monday!
Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning composer Daniel Pemberton joins me to talk about scoring Alex Gibney's provocative documentary feature 'Musk,' the film's slow musical descent and creating 'Let Me Sell You a Dream' with the legendary David Byrne.

We don't know this man, Doug Whitley, but he's definitely an American hero for writing this excellent letter-to-the-editor.

There should be armed guards at cinema screenings who will point a gun in your face if your phone is lighting up or you’re speaking

The French protests are only happening because of immigration.
Before immigration the French were peaceful people that never once violently opposed their government.

The one lesson they've all absorbed is to never apologize, just keep doubling down, no matter how amoral, sociopathic, or evil it makes you look, assuming the media will move on in +/- one news cycle. Really awful stuff.

Not sure it's a great sign for the future of democracy when one person, who is the biggest donor to the GOP, also owns a satellite system he can turn up or down like a volume dial to affect the outcome of a war + a social media platform used to influence public opinion

As the writer Michael Wolff points out, Trump is psychologically incapable of accepting defeat. He denies every objective loss and claims them as successes. He did it with his failed businesses, with the 2020 election, with the war on Iran, with affordability. Accepting setbacks & losses & learning from them is an essential for effective leadership, he just can't do that. In 2 weeks we will see it unfold again when he challenges midterm defeats, & it's going to be very dangerous.
‘La bola negra’ is a grand, sweeping, audaciously ambitious film, spanning decades from 1930s Spain through the Spanish Civil War and into 2017. A deeply moving portrait of a nation’s turbulent history and its reckoning with the past, with an unsettling relevance to today.
This is a blistering indictment of the ugly rot of fascism that has plagued history for generations, told through the experiences of those forced to live on the fringes, and a sprawling queer narrative about connection, persecution, exclusion and the consequences of being blackballed by society.
The actors are extraordinary. Guitarricadelafuente is sensational, and Penélope Cruz is fantastic in just a handful of scenes. Raül Refree’s score and Gris Jordana’s cinematography absolutely blew me away. What a riveting, haunting piece of filmmaking by directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvi.
There’s something very ‘The Brutalist’ about its look and feel, and the sheer scale and grandeur of its visual storytelling.
There really is something extraordinary happening in Spanish cinema, particularly over the last few years. The ambition, the artistry, the willingness to confront uncomfortable truths. This is art.

Last election, maga got everything they wanted. Trump as president, a Congress devoted to trump, and a Supreme Court to back him.
And with all that, they're still the most unhappy people in the country. I believe that their addiction to hate can never be satisfied. Ever.
Composer Joseph Trapanese joins me to talk about Whalefall, finding Jay’s fragile human pulse inside a 100-piece orchestra, shaping the voice of the ocean and scoring a journey through grief toward release. This is one of the most ambitious scores of the year.

Seven episodes into Apple TV’s Nocturne and I’m completely hooked. This is a sensational crime thriller.
Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, Rory Culkin, Poorna Jagannathan, Bill Camp and Chrissy Metz are terrific across the board, and Emmy winner Stephen Graham as serial killer Jurek Walter is extraordinary.
It looks incredible, the score by Toydrum is superb, and John Hlavin (The Man Who Fell to Earth) + Rowan Joffe have absolutely nailed this one.
I’ve got 3 episodes left and cannot wait to see how it all lands. Definitely one to watch when it premieres next week. #nocturne @AppleTV
