Might have an interesting research project for someone ➡️I have over a years worth of detailed transit data scraped from @MetrobusTransit with 900k+ datapoints. It's time to pass it on to someone else.
Today in Townie Disillusionment: easy to win election if you promise to lower taxes. Never mind the implicit tax of car ownership (min $10k/year), made mandatory due to poor gov’t services. This year’s average tax increase was $240/year per household.

The city studied this in the past and the answer was basically "yes".

Promising language in the newly adopted @CityofStJohns Development Design Manual. This is a big deal for new developments in the city.

Does this predate the envision regs or is it just not completed yet? Any ideas @ianfroude?
Where's the bike parking on this brand new build?

Half of NL driving this
Route 2 is the most susceptible to extremes at peak times, but not the most late on average. That award goes to route 26 (3 mins behind on average).
Lateness clearly correlates with peak rush hour times, reaching maximum around 4-5pm on weekdays.
➡️Car traffic is slowing down public transit.
A possible case to be made here for dedicated transit lanes. A next step here would be to map out the locations of the slowdowns.
A few observations:
Buses are late a lot! But they are early a lot too. The average lateness is close to 0, but the swings in times must be a problem for users. This might explain why I often see buses driving very fast, which is obviously not good.
Made a little thing to track Metrobus stats over time (because nerd). I don't have a specific goal in mind but the data reveal some interesting results after just a week.

Consider that @GovNL spends less than ~1% on sustainable infrastructure compared to roads and highways, and most of the funding comes from this federal fund specifically allocated for active transportation: tinyurl.com/yhnjfxnm
Spent a lot of time traveling around Europe and Asia on sleeper trains - amazing way to travel.
