𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐤𝐮 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐏 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐏 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐯𝐮’𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 Yesterday during the burial of former Busiro South MP Charles Matovu (NUP) at his ancestral home in Kungu-Lutale along Nakawuka Road, Wakiso District, a group of individuals attacked Kibuku County MP Herbert Kinobere and other mourners identified as NRM supporters. According to @PoliceUg spokesperson ACP @mkituuma , the attackers were opposed to the presence of NRM-aligned mourners at the funeral of an opposition politician. They deflated the tyres of Kinobere’s vehicle and pelted stones at him and several other mourners. Police from Entebbe Division (Kampala Metropolitan Police South) intervened, secured those targeted, and arrested 20 suspects. The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court. Kituuma condemned the violence, stating that political affiliation does not justify attacks or restrictions on attendance at funerals. He urged the public to respect mourners regardless of party and to refrain from violence, intimidation, and destruction of property, noting that burials bring together relatives, friends, and others whose connections to the deceased are not political. Matovu, who represented Busiro South on the NUP ticket in the 11th Parliament, died on 22 October 2026 at Mulago National Referral Hospital at the age of 41 after a sudden illness. At the time of his death he was pursuing a court petition challenging the January 2026 election results.
