Not being at all saintly about this migraine, but here's a selection of my devotional poems, whilst I suffer:
First up:

A very old one, which remains a firm favourite for the C S Lewis fans and me: 'Februaries'
Discussing with @the_abigail00 how absolutely vital it is to have close working friendships with people in entirely different disciplines and fields; not for cross-pollination of ideas or anything like that, but for sanity and perspective.
I'm probably too Prot to be able to accept a truly easy life but I'd be a calmer person if I was able to reach conclusions without having to wade through the ditchy mire of decision-making and error first.
Betty Brehens, in a 1969 review of Elton: "The members of the Cambridge History Faculty are much given to writing books on the nature of their subject." Many are saying this. If only they were as given to writing good history.

Local WhatsApp group which complains endlessly about kids riding bikes and playing knock a door run on the estate is currentky reminiscing whimsically about when they were kids and used to set off fireworks in the park as “harmless fun”

The deconstruction of love cannot be completed as that is divinely instituted. Thought, however, is being unmade at pace.

Nice little storm, nice and cozy, proper British stuff, none of this heatwave nonsense

”For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
going thru diaries from when i was struggling with my Christian faith. It seems even from a very young age, I was confused that Jesus's sacrifice was supposed to be such a big deal. I find multiple entries across the years with variations on "Obviously any of us would do that for someone we loved, it kinda seems like Jesus just hitting the bare minimum"

rebaptizing someone who was already baptized in a Nicene Church is a rebuke of God and a stunning look at your own corrupt faith
The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has officially mandated the rebaptism of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians and banned them the use of the Ukrainian language in divine services.
On October 22, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church approved a document titled "Guidelines for the Reception of Individuals from Ukrainian Schismatic Structures Wishing to Join the Russian Orthodox Church." It applies to people in Russian-occupied territories who were previously affiliated with the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP), or the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
The document outlines three procedures for joining the ROC. Notably, it stipulates that individuals baptized within the OCU, UOC-KP, or UAOC must undergo the Sacrament of Baptism again to join the ROC. Different rules apply to those originally baptized within the ROC, the Roman Catholic Church, or a Protestant denomination.
Regarding the accession of entire congregations to the ROC, the document states that such a community may not demand a distinct liturgical order or a special administrative status. Furthermore, the use of any language other than Church Slavonic in divine services is prohibited—even though the ROC elsewhere permits the use of various other languages, ranging from English to Japanese.

“Good Morning Gentlemen…”
Sad to hear of the passing of Tom Skerritt famous for being ‘Viper’ and so many other great roles. Some may not know that he was actually an Air Force veteran himself and whilst he was never a flyer, his brother flew P-51’s in WW2. Sad he never made it to any of the sequels. Maybe a mention or nod to him would be appropriate if they ever do another.

“It is possible that God says every morning, ‘Do it again’ to the sun; and every evening, ‘Do it again’ to the moon. … The repetition in Nature may not be a mere recurrence; it may be a theatrical encore.” —Chesterton
If they close Southwell I will not be responsible for my actions
Terrible news today that Southwell Minster could be forced to close its doors as it faces a financial crisis.
It needs more than £20m in building repairs, and is thought to have been insolvent in July.
The Reverend Canon Dr Stephen Evans, only installed as Dean in April!, has said an emergency meeting was called and a report was lodged with the Charity Commission as no accounts had been lodged with the Charity Commission (for two years prior to his appointment).
Southwell is an absolutely beautiful place and the team there, including the Dean, were so welcoming and wholesome to me during my @visualtheology conference this May.
