Watch my interview with Andy Haldane from earlier this week on Reality Check here 👇 🔥 "‘Rolling back 40 years of neoliberalism’. I don’t even know what that means. But it certainly doesn’t describe Manchester, I can tell you" 🔥 "It hasn’t been built on bus franchising, for heaven’s sake. It’s been built on attracting people and money and business and culture, just like every other successful city in human history.” 🔥 “The scope to borrow more to grow the economy is close to nonexistent. The fiscal space has evaporated.” youtube.com/watch?v=EqV00gm1…

Top tip when leading campaign for tax hikes: don't publish private staff commentary on the faults in your draft... Evidence on gambling 'harms' is extremely flimsy.

The war of words between the pro- and anti-gambling lobbies is spicy at the moment. Fair enough – there is a lot at stake. Please remember: the man funding the anti-gambling side is Derek Webb, who made his millions from casino games spectator.com/article/from-p…

Hi Derek, I’ve had a tweet from Rupert at the Spectator asking about Horse Racing. Any thoughts on what I should reply? See you at the next get together. Best regards Alex (the MP)

Correct me if I'm wrong @AlexBallingerMP but your two-page letter doesn't appear to mention racing. Could you give us some sense of how the government would protect the sport following an MGD rise?
It's time to raise taxes on harmful gambling machines. Today, 90 Labour MPs have written to the Chancellor, calling for an increase in Machine Games Duty for harmful high-stakes gambling machines.

Government cannot claim to care about animal welfare and working people while decimating industries that support them. Targeting businesses based on whether or not the PM likes them is elitist and just plain hypocritical. Me in the Daily Express 👇🏻 express.co.uk/news/uk/225770…

“Seeing is believing. It’s hard to argue with that isn’t it? Even for a politician voting on something they know nothing about. Well, that’s the theory, as greyhound racing @GreyhoundBoard fights back against those opposing the sport with little knowledge of reality.   Greyhound racing’s ’Seeing is Believing' campaign is headed up by @AbbieMacGregor3, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Greyhound Board.   “Horse racing @BHAHorseracing should take note. Perhaps the most revealing feature of zoos is the way they expose the curious contradiction in our relationship with other creatures. We visit, marvel at the animals and admire their beauty, intelligence and charm. We coo over them and congratulate ourselves on being animal lovers. Then we go to the canteen for lunch, where we may be served the charred remains of chickens, pigs and other animals that also spent their lives inside cages too small for them, before being taken to the slaughterhouse and killed. Some species, it seems, are to be admired and protected; others are to be bred, imprisoned and slaughtered. We are all conditioned into these distinctions from childhood, rarely stopping to examine them. ✍️ Chas Newkey-Burden Article | spectator.com/article/the-yo… | @allthatchas
