Do we actually know each other and you would like to vacate Txitter for BlueSky? I have invites!

Clicked over to watch a 2-day-old @4stringboy_ stream from the other day and switched tabs away to clear something and then switched back and it happened to coincide with Sammy literally saying "HI MATT" and my brain collapsed in on itself for a moment.

Just an FYI that I am pretty much never active here anymore. I'm on bluesky as @rumdood as well if you're there. Also on IG but not threads. I'm pretty much @rumdood everywhere, so hopefully I'll see you folks in those other places. This place sucks.

An unexpected problem with getting more into ukulele has been dealing with @UKRumfest going on and my brain keeps freezing every time I see "ukrumfest" as it tries to figure out which FOMO to activate

Flipped over to YouTube and immediately saw that @4stringboy_ has his signature @flightukulele out and it LOOKS GORGEOUS. Congrats, sir!

Sometimes you just need a 3:1 cognac and Jamaican rum Sazerac

A reminder that "you can just force the central government closed and hold all its public services and workers' paychecks hostage in budget negotiations" is not how a functional country operates and is another way in which the US political system is uniquely terrible.

I'm just the son of an old farm boy, but isn't Paul literally saying he will hold the government hostage over Ukraine funding?

Looking forward to the GOP platform of nationalizing the auto industry and firing all the blue collar workers.
An Iowa voter asked Tim Scott how he’d handle UAW strike as president. He praised the past firing of striking federal workers, saying Reagan set a good example: “You strike, you’re fired.” V different than other R candidate rhetoric atm, per @NnamEgwuon nbcnews.com/politics/2024-el…

Amazing artwork. Incredible writing by @AshleyEsqueda. Fantastic food recipes by @jed_b. Also a few mocktail recipes from yours truly (but nothing is ever perfect). Pick up a copy as soon as you can.

I spent some time thinking about it and scabs are scabs and if they don't want to be called scabs then they are free to refuse to scab
Calling strikebreakers “scabs” is patently dehumanizing (and if your response to this is “good,” you should probably engage in some self-examination)

Imagine being hurt that people you are literally working to undermine the well-being of are mad about that.

Some police and now prosecutors are refusing to follow the law that young people be given attorneys before they are interrogated. It's not civil disobedience when those who are sworn to uphold and enforce the law ignore the law - it's insubordination. baltimoresun.com/politics/bs…

Honestly traffic enforcement is too important to society to entrust with the cops
“Nobody wants to work anymore” is demonstrably false, with one notable exception

I have no problem acknowledging that single parenthood comes with challenges, but we should also acknowledge that the extent to which is causes post-tax/transfer poverty is a policy choice, not an immutable reality
“We are often reluctant to acknowledge one of the significant drivers of child poverty — the widespread breakdown of family — for fear that to do so would be patronizing or racist,” writes @NickKristof. nyti.ms/3PCeNQv

A lot of "Why do men think about this particular empire" discourse going on like we're only thinking about one. Imagine a day going by where you don't think about these guys.

According to @HelloFresh - it takes 14 days to process an unsubscribe from a mailing list that I unsubscribed from 3 months ago. So be wary if you're thinking about signing up for their service. If you decide to cancel, they will never, ever, stop hounding you to come back.

I can absolutely just block their email addresses. I can also absolutely file complaints with every state and federal agency related to spam and corporate communication, and that's what I'll be doing.

Nice work, @Sen_JoeManchin !
holy moly, child poverty rate rose from all-time low of 5.2% in 2021 to 12.4% (!!!) in 2022, reflecting end of temporary child allowance and other programs.
