The Fountain Magazine presents a Ramadan reflection on freedom and self-mastery. As USA marks 250 years since the pursuit of self-determination, Ramadan reminds us that the most lasting independence is internal: breaking the unseen chains of impulse, distraction, and excess. Fasting is not punishment—it is training that strengthens will, renews gratitude, and returns compassion to the center of life. Ramadan Mubarak. Watch the special Ramadan video dedicated to America's 250 years of independence. youtu.be/NWFuJHHRRK4

The Alliance for Shared Values condemns the violent shooting that targeted two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. We grieve for the victims and stand with their families and communities as they navigate this painful time. Violence of any kind undermines the safety, dignity, and peace we strive to uphold. We reaffirm our commitment to fostering a society grounded in nonviolence, respect, and the protection of every human life.

✨ Highlights from the ongoing Fethullah Gülen Conference at Drew University! These live photos capture moments from the international conference “Fethullah Gülen’s Thought & Practice: Education, Dialogue, Peacebuilding, and Identity Formation”, hosted by Respect Graduate School and Peace Islands Institute in collaboration with Drew University. Over three days, scholars and thought leaders from around the world are exploring themes such as the role of education in shaping ethical leadership, interfaith dialogue as a path to peace, the spiritual foundations of Gülen’s philosophy, the place of women’s leadership in the Hizmet Movement, and the intersections of science, spirituality, and identity in the modern world. The conference provides a space for deep reflection on how Gülen’s ideas continue to inspire peacebuilding and human solidarity in today’s pluralistic society. We sincerely thank Drew University President Hilary L. Link, Jonathan Golden, and all the organizers for making this gathering possible. #GulenConference2025 #Dialogue #Peacebuilding #RespectGS #PeaceIslands

This is an important update on the "Girls' Trial" in Turkey, but it is still a long way from ending the prosecution of these young women on charges of “terrorism” - simply for engaging in peaceful religious acts. The trial represents an egregious misuse of Turkey's anti-terror laws, and the charges should be dropped.
⚖️ UPDATE on the “Girls’ Trial” in #Turkey: Today, the final 2 imprisoned defendants were released, including a high school student and a mother. But let’s be clear: this is not an acquittal. All 41 still face charges of “terrorism” for peaceful religious acts like reading Qur’an commentaries, attending iftars, and tutoring. Defense lawyers shared that questions posed to underage girls (one as young as 13) focused on routine religious study and daily activities—further underscoring the absurdity of this case. ➡️ The prosecutor will now prepare a final opinion. 🗓️ Next—and likely final—hearing: June 13, 2025. Sentences could reach 15 years. 🔗 turkishminute.com/2025/04/25… 🧵:teapawt.org/TurkishMinuteTM/status… #Trial41 #FaithUnchained #ReligiousFreedom #Turkey #FoRB #HumanRights @USCIRF @StateIRF @SecRubio @rumiforum

Is Multitasking Really Possible? by Matt Alley Psychology Is multitasking really possible? In other words, can we easily handle multiple tasks and switch between them without sacrificing time and accuracy? To answer this question, we need to first understand the brain’s executive control over cognitive processes. fountainmagazine.com/all-iss…

We were pleased to join a multifaith letter denouncing the unjust trials of 41 individuals in Turkey, and now we're happy to share the news that 3 of the 5 imprisoned women have been released. While this is a positive development, we must continue to advocate for those still held unjustly, simply for peacefully expressing their faith. We must continue to call for Turkey to respect and protect freedom of religion or belief for all its citizens. Read the letter here: irfroundtable.org/advocacy/t… @IrfRoundtable @rumiforum @USCIRF

Update from the 3rd hearing of the 41 individuals unjustly on trial in Turkey🚨 Good news: 3 of the 5 imprisoned women have been released, including Rabia Battal Genç, who recently suffered a brain hemorrhage. Her detention was both unjust & life-threatening. However, 2 women were sent back to prison. The next hearing is set for April 25, 2025. Rabia was mentioned in our recent multi-faith letter from the @IrfRoundtable. 🔗 Read it here: irfroundtable.org/advocacy/t… #HumanRights @rumiforum @USCIRF @StateIRF @StephenSchneck @SecRubio

Saddened to learn of the passing of Fethullah GĂĽlen. He and his followers have been targeted and wrongly branded as terrorists by the Turkish government, persecuted and imprisoned. Civil liberties there have diminished for everyone. Respect for the rule of law must be restored.

We offer our condolences to the Gülen community on the passing of their leader, Fetullah Gülen. His commitment to democracy, education, interfaith dialogue, and harmony between science and religion inspired millions of followers, and he was an important voice of opposition in the face of growing authoritarianism in Turkey. npr.org/2024/10/21/nx-s1-515…

I am deeply pained to know that Fethullah GĂĽlen, one of the most enlightened Sufi Islamic scholars in modern times, is no more. I had the honour of meeting him at his spiritual centre in Pennsylvania, USA, in 2018. Addressed by his followers as Hoja Efendi (Respected Teacher), Gulen advocated respect for all faiths. In my conversation with him, he showed respect for Hinduism and India, and said he admired Mahatma Gandhi. His dozens of books and numerous discourses are a strong voice against misuse of Islam for promoting extremism and terrorism, and for enjoying political power (as is happening in his native Turkey and other Muslim countries). Erdogan falsely accused him of orchestrating a coup in 2016. The Hizmet (service of humanity) Movement inspired by him has been doing commendable work in countries around the world, with the involvement of thousands of highly dedicated volunteers. May Gulen's legacy of Islamic contribution to a peaceful and spirutally evolving multi-religious world continue to guide both Muslims and non-Muslims. God Almighty surely has a special place for his soul in His Abode. I pay my respects with a prayer. Om Shanti!

URGENT! Four people potentially affiliated with Hizmet are still in custody after being kidnapped in Kenya. They must be found and released before they can be taken to Turkey, where they are likely to face torture and jail for no crime at all. Please help before it’s too late! @StateDept @hrw @amnesty @UNRefugeeAgency standardmedia.co.ke/nairobi/…
