A program loss for Ohio State. They had two weeks to prepare and the most composed person on the team is the freshman QB who’s supposed to be the liability. Just an absolute meltdown around him.

We’re nearing almost 4 years since the Nets traded KD and over 2 years since they traded Bridges yet this team is an absolute abomination with nearly no talent, no heart, and no excitement. To have no talent after 7 first round picks and max cap space back-to-back years is insane

People call being a sports fan a one-sided relationship. You give a team decades, and it doesn’t even know your name. Then you see a video like this. An 81-year-old man in a Brewers jersey, crying, with his wife next to him, watching his team win the World Series. The Brewers came to Milwaukee in 1970, when he was about 25. They made the World Series once, in 1982, and lost in seven games. He waited 56 years, through decades of losing seasons, to see this. You don’t see an 81-year-old in that video. You see the kid who started rooting for them. The psychologist Daniel Wann has spent years studying why fans stay. His research found that identifying with a local team gives people real connections: the friends you watch with, the strangers you high-five, the shared language of a city. In one of his studies of older fans, with an average age around 71, people who identified more strongly with a local team reported feeling less lonely. So maybe it’s not as one-sided as it looks. The team never learns his name. But it gave him 56 years of people to share it with, and one night he’ll never forget.
You may see an 81 year old man crying after waiting decades to see his favorite team win the World Series but I see a 15 year old kid living in the moment.

With all due respect @DavidPSamson, the ability to have a broadcast that’s friendly for those in vehicles is always going to be important. The amount of detail needed to paint the picture on audio is an art form unto itself. Anyone that thinks otherwise isn’t interested in what’s best for the fan. Just the bottom line

The people who run this wonderful, frustrating, amazing, stupid sport keep telling fans at schools like New Mexico that they don’t matter. And then 35,000 people showed up on a stormy Saturday and showed why they always will. Just an amazing night.
The scene at New Mexico is electric

Fun note about @PTI: Everyday, Tony Kornheiser preps for the show by taking written, long-hand notes in cursive on a yellow legal pad — one page for each A block story and 1/2 page for each B Block topic. These should be on-display in the @smithsonian in DC. #PTI25

Since expansion beyond the BCS, the only teams to win a title who weren't the 1/2 seed were Ohio St, Alabama, and Georgia Since expanding to 12, the only team benefitting from expansion was Ohio St Going to 24 doesn't give 8-4 Pitt a chance. It gives 9-3 Alabama a mulligan
People keep saying it’s the best regular season in sports and yet it used to be when u lose one game ur season was over lmao “best regular season in sports” and it’s just Alabama Ohio state and Georgia every single year during “the good ole days”. Any regular season where 1 loss ruins ur year or where only like 5 teams have a chance on the field to win is batshit insane

College athletics is terrible at seeing problems around the corner. The 24-team playoff is the latest example. A lot of schools that supported this will regret it because in the end it won't be about the playoff or even the now diminished regular season. Notre Dame now has the best situation in all of football - almost 100 percent guarantee to make the playoff, freedom to schedule as it wishes, maximization of its own media value. To use the Big Ten as an example, why wouldn't Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State follow? If you can, be independent. That's the future. The 18-team Big Ten is bloated, distant and winning it carries little intrinsic or competitive value for the biggest brands. Those three schools can create a scheduling agreement that would increase their media revenue 2-3x and give the same control over everything. No sharing money. No forced TV times. Eight or even nine home games. Select your own schedule. Staying in the Big Ten now makes little and perhaps no economic sense. And yes, I do understand the league-wide research grants and so on, but there is always a way around everything. In terms of athletics, for those schools (and maybe a few more) it's lost revenue for the sake of loyalty and we know how that usually gets settled. All these middle and lower schools -- even in the P2 -- that supported this because they'll get in the "participation playoff" with an 8-4 record are facing significant risk in the future. There will come a day when they will now get a share of the Ohio State-Michigan windfall; only Ohio State and Michigan will. Maybe not tomorrow, but I believe a 24-team playoff makes it closer than ever. Thoughts?

Felt inevitable. Completely waters down the regular season. Yet someone will tell you with a straight face that it’s so much better for the sport because more teams = more interest and that #23 Mizzou playing #25 Kentucky in November now has juice cause it’s a pseudo-playin game.
Sources: The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand to 24 teams, per sources. The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.
