Shussshhhhh No one mention climate change! The climate crisis is a food crisis. And this is just the beginning. β€˜The recipe change in the UK will help "maintain consistent quality at a time when changing weather conditions are affecting the quality and availability of some of the rice and grains used in our cereals," a Kellogg's spokesperson told the BBC.’ bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqvg…

Hiked for 6 hours today and saw 2 native trees the rest was man-made monoculture. It doesn't have to be this way these uplands could be a rich mosaic of woodland (yes even to the summits in places), peat bog and heather moor. We must repair our nature depleted country. #Rewild

In tribute to the late Sir Patrick Stewart, this wonderful concert from the Film Music Prague Festival is one I often listen to in the background while working. youtu.be/yySw7vkdkZY?si=oeqj…

Stating the obvious until it clicks: if you wouldn’t take your dog to a slaughter house, then slaughter is not humane.

Good BUT EVEN BETTER, don't eat meat. πŸ‘‡ Pigs will be spared unnecessary pain and distress before slaughter under new government plans to phase out the use of high-concentration carbon dioxide stunning.Β  New proposals set out today (26 October 2026) would see the pork industry move towards more humane methods of stunning pigs, helping to prevent animals experiencing panic and breathing difficulties before losing consciousness.Β  Pigs are highly sentient and intelligent animals, capable of experiencing pain and fear. Minimising distress during handling and slaughter is an important part of safeguarding their welfare

If you had attempted to open your mind to even the briefest research, Jeremy, it would have saved you from posting this nonsense, and looking like a fool. Hedgehogs don't eat slugs. Slugs are the intermediate host of lungworm - fatal to all mammals, including hedgehogs (despite all the children's stories, they don't have any magical protection). They don't eat a lot of worms, either. What hedgehogs eat are beetles and caterpillars. And it's beetles and caterpillars that are destroyed when their habitat of rough edges, pockets of scrub, areas of unkempt long grass, piles of dead wood, etc, gets 'tidied up'.

After a rough couple of harvests, it feels like farmers are doubling down and planting every square foot they've got. 🌾 But how much of that is just being grown to feed livestock? Farming needs a full rethink.

Time and again, people I follow on social media for their specific expertise seem to reveal a total lack of sense the moment they post about anything outside their field.
If I was Prime Minister , if I was Burnham , watching European cities ablaze . . . I’d instigate a β€˜wealth tax’ at about 9.01am tomorrow morning . Just saying . Or should we just β€˜eat cake’ ?

After a hectic week sat in front of a laptop, there something deeply relaxing about watching the birds in the garden. Nothing terribly exciting this afternoon: blue tits, great tits, house sparrows, tree creeper, firecrest. Woodpeckers visit in the morning.

Sitting in the garden, enjoying the bird song, with a coffee, and looking across the valley at the freshly ploughed fields. There's a definite taint of something in the air.

Thank you to everyone that commented. Still finding it hard to accept and fully expecting to see her walk through the door, so taking a bit of time offline while things sink in.
Sadly, I lost my shadow last night. She's going to be missed.

"If" and "only" - two small words - words that kept repeating themselves again and again in Janet's thoughts...

It's fascinating how deeply embedded into our culture the idea that we *need* to consume meat to be healthy is - and that abstaining from it is somehow *dangerous*.
I'm astonished how quickly schools are implementing this. My 6-year-old came home today with new lunch menu (which they've never sent home before). Gone are Friday fish & chips, the rest is 99% vegetarian, a lot of legumes/pulses. I'm vegetarian myself but kids need meat/fish πŸ«ͺ

~85% of the UK's pig population is raised in large-scale intensive or factory-farming units. Do you need a better reason than this for going plant-based? 🌱#GoPlantBased

The recovery from the brink of extinction of European bison is one of the most exciting rewilding stories the world has ever seen.

For most #dairy calves being born and tagged is an immediate death sentence πŸ‘ΊWith immediate incarceration on death row. In fact for all newborns in all animal fHarming it is a death sentence. Many of them first live a miserable life of forced pregnancies, forced labor, delivering milk, eggs or just offspring before being murdered. Don’t support this #EndAnimalExploitation #LiveVegan live a justifiable lifestyle ✌️
