As natural grass farmers of the state of Washington and other concerned citizens, we are asking the public to say NO to fake, plastic turf. #KeepItReal

The future of Seattle’s field needs to be grass. I’d be willing to have us in a dome if that’s what it takes. @vkhosla @nealkhosla

I’m giving the field the benefit of the doubt until we see reason not to, once the players are on it. But I will present real photos I just took. 1st Photo: The 10 yard line, between the hashes. 2nd Photo: A sample of the artificial turf plugs threaded into the field.

Raiders owner Mark Davis on grass in NFL stadiums: "There was no way I was going to build the stadium or anything else to play on artificial turf. I just always felt that the safety issue, number one, and I grew up around football and the grass and mud and the smell of those uniforms after the game." via @reviewjournal

POWERFUL: #Bills star Josh Allen wants every #NFL stadium to switch from artificial turf to natural grass. “I’ve gotten numerous burns on my legs from artificial turf that hurt to the point where I can’t sleep at night.” “If I could snap my fingers and make every field grass, that’s what I would do.”

The FIFA World Cup Final may be over, but here’s a look back at what helped prepare the pitch for football’s biggest stage. This photo was taken just 15 days after the stitching process at MetLife Stadium, showing how quickly the natural grass roots began intertwining with the synthetic fibers to create a reinforced rootzone. The stitching installation was carried out by our partners at SIS Pitches, one of the world’s leading specialists in hybrid turf systems. That rapid integration is one of the greatest advantages of the stitching system. As the roots grow around the fibers, they form a stronger underground structure that improves shear strength, increases resistance to divots, and helps the field withstand the demands of elite competition while maintaining the look and feel of natural grass.

The data on injuries doesn't lie. The injury gap between surfaces is overwhelmingly real, with all common lower-body injuries seeing a significant spike when athletes are forced to play on artificial turf. 🤕

The grass at this year's World Cup has traveled farther than some of the fans. Half of this year's tournament stadiums were built with artificial turf for football, so FIFA had to bring in natural grass to transform them into soccer pitches. That meant growing custom hybrid grass on farms, trucking it hundreds of miles across multiple states, and maintaining it—sometimes under stadium roofs with artificial lights. TIME senior sports correspondent Sean Gregory went behind the scenes at Los Angeles Stadium, to see what it takes to prepare one of the world's most important playing surfaces.

The NFLPA is calling out team owners as stadiums swap out turf for grass for the World Cup. As many players push for grass, the union says owners are doing "for soccer players what they refuse to do for NFL players."

Get off the grass! The artificial turf at Gillette Stadium has been ripped up and removed for the FIFA World Cup. The new pitch—a blend of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial rye—is meticulously maintained at just 0.9 inches to meet FIFA’s exact standards. Under the field, there

Discarded tyres are too toxic for landfill... but when ground-up into rubber crumb and used as infill in 3G artificial football pitches (20,000 on a single full size pitch), they suddenly become safe... but, please don't be fooled, they can never be safe, they're full of carcinogenic, mutagenic and endocrine disruptive chemicals... which will harm your children, especially academy goalkeepers, as they have more contact with the ground and the dust gets directly into their grazes as they dive around. Isn't it ridiculous that those who control these industries, including our government and the sports stakeholder, don't care one bit about your children getting ill, losing a leg, or very sadly, dying? All they care about is the money... the many £Billions that they rake in. Your children don't matter!!! Please DO NOT let your children anywhere near 3G pitches. Please read the info in my tweets. .

A plastic turf field wears out after only 8ish years, each time generating a literal mountain of plastic waste. There’s no evidence that any facility in the U.S. is recycling it at scale. And many landfill operators won’t accept it. Where does all this plastic waste go??
A company promising to recycle plastic turf has failed. It collected lots of money & used plastic turf carpets and then… declared bankruptcy. Taxpayers now responsible for the clean-up of THOUSANDS OF TONS OF PLASTIC WASTE. Destination: landfills. ydr.com/story/news/environme…

Please don't replace turf with plastic grass. It: 🐝 Offers no food and shelter to wildlife 🌱 Has a high carbon footprint - while real grass captures carbon ⚠️ Wears out and ends up in landfill 🐬 Sheds microplastics which wash into rivers & the sea 💦 Worsens flooding

Heartbreaking.💔 Another soccer goalie for Griffin’s list. “15 years ago, [Longtime UW goalies coach Amy Griffin] identified what she believed was a trend that she couldn’t ignore in good conscience — young goalies being diagnosed with blood cancer.” xitter.cf/banplasticturf/status/…
Does artificial turf increase cancer risk? “Griffin’s list of former goalies and other athletes with cancer continues to grow. The list now includes close to 300 people, more than half of whom have a form of blood cancer.” kuow.org/stories/does-playin…
