I'm giving a guest lecture on plasticity in algae in a few weeks. What neat things should I talk about? Let me know if you or someone you know is currently doing research in this area!
Over the moon excited that today is Day 1 of my new postdoctoral fellowship with @CIEEICEE Living Data Project, based at @ubcscience. This position encompasses so many of my passions – research, data science, teaching, and history. (1/2)

Just gonna drop this here for those who need a reminder which approaches have the greatest potential for net emissions reductions... from that controversial source, the IPCC (AR6 WG3 2022).
I wrote my PhD acknowledgements and I am a puddle 🥺🫠💧 #gettingclose
I promise I’m not trying to eavesdrop 🫣but I overheard a man saying it’s near impossible to do a PhD & have kids at the same time. And that women should wait to have a family until we graduate. I had two kids during my PhD, in year 1 and year 3. (1/2)

Anyone able to offer an online Java course, in English, free to a Ukrainian refugee? Yulia was a hydrologist in Ukraine until she had to flee. She is now cleaning houses to get by as she tries to teach herself Java, but needs a proper course. Please RT.
Setting my “it has been 20 days since I last received a phone call to stop working and come pick up a sick child from school” sign back to 0 today.
I have an interview for a postdoc in a couple weeks and would love any advice on how best to prepare for it. 🙏🏼

Last week I likely taught my last class as a TA during my PhD & I’m feeling more emotional about it that I thought I would. I didn’t expect to enjoy teaching nearly as much as I have. I’ll miss getting to know new students & I hope I made a positive impression on @ least 1 person
PSA to any moms who are planning out their dissertation writing timeline: remember to factor in that each child will be sick and off school for a min. of 2 days/week. And always at opposite times from each other. #momademia #phdchat
I haven’t been in the field for a while, so for #phycologyfriday here’s a picture of some Fucus distichus wrack covered in Lepas Pacifica - a pelagic species of gooseneck barnacle. We are using the barnacle sizes and their published growth rates to estimate drift time (1/2)
Just submitted an abstract to S13 - detectability of non-linearities, abrupt shifts and tipping points in marine ecosystems, at @eccwo next April. Who else is going?
I was lucky enough to be nominated for this month’s BioNews TA spotlight at UBC (thanks @funnyfishes 😀), and one of the Qs asked was how does my background influence my TA experience. (1/2)
So I thought I’d give a shout out to 2 fantastic TAs that I had during undergrad that have shaped how I teach, so thanks to @JoeyBernhardt and Melissa Guzman for your thoughtful and engaging approach to TAing. (2/2)
