Of the TWO candidates running for governor of Texas, only ONE increased property taxes, that’s Greg Abbott. He took over Houston ISD and increased taxes last year AND controlled who received those vendor contracts. Abbott lies about me to hide his record of skyrocketing property taxes and growing state govt. I have never, not once, voted to increase taxes. I have only voted to decrease them.

For 32 years, Republicans have controlled every statewide elected office in Texas. When Ann Richards left the Governor’s mansion in January 1995, Texas was ranked among the top 10 states in education, 5th in reading, and 6th in math. After three decades of one-party rule? Texas has dropped to 41st in education overall, 34th in math, and 44th in reading.

A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to not deport a witness in the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by a federal immigration agent earlier this month in Houston. The order applies to one of the three passengers in the van Salgado Araujo was driving. Lawyers are seeking the men’s release from detention. bit.ly/4weFC0S

15 homes. 6 fraudulent votes. 0 questions answered.
Ken Paxton panics and refuses to answer multiple questions from reporters, forcing his handler to intervene: Q: James Talarico is calling you out for owning 15 homes on a government salary, can you respond? Paxton: *dodges question* Q: Will you answer a question about your alleged voter fraud? Handler: We’re going to get out of here

#Peace is a responsibility. If our first instinct when we encounter a problem, experience tension or are insulted, is to judge others, accuse and even condemn them, then, inevitably, first indifference and then hatred will grow around us. There is a way of looking at reality that destroys and does not build. Peace instead, begins with me. It begins with us.

Ken Paxton held a press conference today. His first question was on the story we broke last week about the three new properties he's acquired during his divorce. He declined to answer the question. Read the story here (gift link): nytimes.com/2026/07/16/us/pa…
Here it is: @cbs11jack: "I wanted to give you a chance to respond to @jamestalarico's campaign, they've made a lot about the reports that have come out in the New York Times about you acquiring properties..." @KenPaxtonTX: "So Jack, can we keep this to law enforcement today?"

BREAKING: we just filed an injunction to stop SpaceX from privatizing 727 acres of a public wildlife refuge. Just 5% of native habitat remains in Texas' Rio Grande Valley. Even less is publicly accessible. We shouldn't give more away to one of the richest companies on Earth.

I agreed to be interviewed today on a podcast about AI, where I could make my views about its spiritual dangers clear. I must say, I tire of having to call out the bad-faith actors who pretend to want to discuss AI's impact but really are just there to draw you into a dialogue that shills for tech interests. But I will always call it out. At one point the host read a "poem" to me, suspecting I'd be generous and find something to applaud in it, after which he could "get me" by revealing it was composed by AI. But I told him the truth. It was an awful piece of writing. I then proceeded to tell him what poems—what art, what being human—can really do to change our lives, by engaging us in the miraculous task of becoming. When you keep hearing people insist that AI will do what humans can, and that it can do it more cheaply, there are times, friends, when you have to tell people that if all they can think about is product instead of process, they have lost their way. Louis Armstrong was once asked what jazz is. "If you have to ask," he answered, "you'll never know." If you have to ask why the process of human creation is important (and spiritually fulfilling) in a world of computerized creation, you'll never know, at least until you open your heart to the possibility that we're here on this earth to do something more than make money and die.

Friends, in converting to Catholicism, Vice President Vance was deeply struck by the fact that Jesus Christ is the Lord of one’s entire life, not just parts of it—and this includes all of our political positions.
