Another Hindu Temple vandalized - this time the iconic BAPS temple in Chino Hills, CA. It’s just another day in a world where media and academics will insist there is no anti-Hindu hate and that #Hinduphobia is just a construct of our imagination. #UPDATE summarizing our grassroots organizing efforts on #SB403, led by our Dalit and Bahujan leaders. SB403 has been vetoed by Governor Newsom, closing a months long saga of attempts to violate the civil rights of Hindus in California and (mis)use the state’s power to target an entire community based on faulty data from #Hinduphobic hate groups and activists. CoHNA played a pivotal role in creating awareness and shoring up grassroots pushback against this bill and in ensuring that lawmakers (all the way to Governor Newsom’s office) and the media understood the Hindu community’s concerns. Our advocacy against SB403 was driven by our Dalit and Bahujan leaders, and in strong partnership with multiple organizations, temples and people who had never interacted with a lawmaker before. We are proud to be a young but formidable force in being a catalyst for change. The below infographic summarizes our efforts and the power of grassroots activism. - 50+ lawmakers met - 200+ volunteers and activists involved in grassroots organizing - 30+ webinars and sessions held to educate the community - 125+ temples and organizations signed our letters and petitions - 15K+ emails sent to lawmakers But the fight is not over by any means, because our opponents have vowed to fight all the way and across the US.
