Students who nod into the video; students who look confused into the video; students who type questions into the chat; students who type "thank you" at the end of the lecture; we really appreciate it! These are all little bits of light in a dark impersonal sea of Zoom.

Scientists are Humans was recently featured on The PLOS Blog. Set up by a group of people including our lecturer Hannah Dee, it supports us all to move the science research culture to be more kind, and to make science better. @scientistshuman theplosblog.plos.org/2020/09…

“I hope the administration realizes that anything they do now to alleviate this issue for caregivers will directly impact how the professoriate will look 5-10 years from now — how diverse it will be and how many women will be in positions of power within academia,” Dr. Escallón

@scientistshuman are on the look out for new stories from researchers, and for feedback on doing science during COVID. The motto of the site is "be more kind", and the survey takes just a couple of mins

@scientistshuman are looking for contributors for the site. Our motto is "be more kind". We'd love to hear from you about your transition into the new working world; how has kindness played a role in our scientific work during the pandemic ? 💛 #scientistsarehumans #bemorekind
Would you like to write something for us about being a scientist during COVID? Maybe you're balancing work and childcare, or you've not managed to get into your lab for months, or your teaching load has escalated... Or maybe you're doing brilliantly. scientistsarehumans.com/2020…

We need to be sure #research #culture is fair to everyone. Are we heading in the right direction? Is there sufficient transparency in all the processes? #equality occamstypewriter.org/athened…

Okay, I am currently reviewing applicants for a research assistant position in our lab (specifically to work on psychological studies with patients), and I'm seeing common mistakes and missed opportunities so here are some tips for applicants: [THREAD]

That's EXACTLY my biggest learning as well! It's OKAY and necessary to take things slow in life. As someone guilty of glorifying the hustle culture previously, slowing down has really helped me sort my priorities & enjoy all aspects of my life so much more!

As some one who needs lots of plans and usually rushes around fitting lots of things (& people) in I’ve learnt that less is more in my social life and to take a slower pace at life; I hope to take some of that mentality with me to the new “normal”

My biggest takeaway? Women provide most of the caring, and female leaders seem much more successful in delivering clear messages to keep the population safe. Also, I am very lucky to have enough space and a garden that staying at home isn’t too difficult.
