Our #tax dollars should NOT fund forest destruction. The #biomass industry wants more subsidies while Southern forests & communities pay the price. Tell elected #officials: Cut subsidies, not forests! 🌳 Take action: dogwoodalliance.org/actions/… #BigBadBiomass @WhatsNYourPapr

True this.
Calling a forest “undeveloped land” is such a strange way to describe it. Nothing is undeveloped about it. It is an ecosystem doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

The second of my favorite nature writers passed this year. First, Wendell Berry and now Annie Dillard. If you have not experienced Pilgrim at Tinker Creek or any of her writing, I highly recommend it. She was a beautiful soul and deeply curious about nature and our place in it - npr.org/2026/09/16/113868057…

One of the last great Southern environmental reporters at a newspaper of this generation. His reporting at The State will be sorely missed and here's hoping someone scoops him up really quickly!
For those who have not heard, my job as The State’s environmental reporter was eliminated this week as part of McClatchy’s layoffs. It has been a good 31-year run covering SC’s environment.

#NC communities are speaking out about the wood pellet industry. At the NC #WoodPellet Town Hall Meeting, residents shared how the industry affects their health, neighborhoods, & forests. We asked leaders to listen & act! youtu.be/S44ku1KkNGY?si=yt_3…

Trees are 95% air. That solid trunk? Built almost entirely from carbon dioxide they pulled out of the atmosphere. We’re literally walking past carbon-capture machines that turn pollution into wood, oxygen, and shade for free. Plant more of them. Nature wrote the perfect code.

Trees don’t need meetings, budgets, or vibes. They just quietly help you breathe, cool the planet, and throw shade at excuses. Plant more. Argue less. 🌳

At Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge, erosion threatens infrastructure and habitat for 200+ bird species. 🦅 The Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project is working to restore riparian habitat to stabilize the riverbanks and improve conditions for fish! 👏 riograndeheadwaters.org/

The biomass industry sees the #AI data center boom & wants in. We see #forests we cannot afford to lose. The line should be clear: No biomass for data centers. bit.ly/biomassdatacenters

Scientists studying oak forests found that #trees can keep absorbing #carbon for months after their annual wood growth has stopped. In eastern U.S. forests, about 36% of annual carbon uptake happened after growth had ended. sciencedaily.com/releases/20…

Environmental groups sue government to stop a big change to the Endangered Species Act wfae.org/science-environment… Here is one of a handful of policies that I hoped would never be meddled with, I hope the groups win in court and SCOTUS doesn't mess it up.

Thomas Massie just sounded the alarm: Congress is on the verge of handing Monsanto total immunity to mass poison Americans with glyphosate. This is existential for MAHA. “If farmers contract a form of cancer … from this chemical, if this makes it into the Farm Bill, you won’t be able to sue.” Instead of pushing to repeal Big Pharma’s vaccine liability shield, Trump and his cronies are trying to expand immunity for even more poison. It’s a complete betrayal of MAHA. And it would cause vastly more harm than all of the benefits that MAHA has done combined. @RepThomasMassie @MassieforKY
