Congratulations to MOSAIC (Settlement & Employment Services for Newcomers) on their 50th anniversary! Seniors First BC was pleased to celebrate this special milestone with you at your Multicultural Seniors Day Event on Oct. 1.
Our public education & outreach staff were busy with events in the Tri-Cities area last week, including hosting tables at “The Future is Here” Forum (organized by the Tri-Cities Seniors Action Network, Sept. 29) and at the annual Wilson Seniors’ Resource Fair (Oct. 1).

We're honoured to be part of the 50th Annual BC Elders Gathering, happening Aug 25–26 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. This event unites First Nations of BC, bringing Elders and younger generations together. Thanks Donna Stirling for organizing.
The Seniors Abuse and Information Line (SAIL) is currently unavailable due to an unexpected issue with our telephone system. We are aware of the outage and are working to restore service as soon as possible. Updates will be provided as they become available.
We are continuing to experience an unexpected outage affecting our telephone system, and our Seniors Abuse and Information Line (SAIL) remains temporarily unavailable. At this time, we have been advised that it may take at least four hours for service to be fully restored.
We were honoured to participate again in the Resource Fair hosted by Kekinow Native Housing Society on Aug. 24 in Surrey. Exhibitors and guests were involved in a smudging circle and enjoyed a delicious lunch (including Bannock!). Special thanks to Germaine Henry for organizing!
Seniors First BC joined the IntraVenus talk show this morning on SFU Radio @CJSF 90.1FM. Show host Necole Hines spoke with Tina Chang & Linda Yauk about our organization and the issue of elder abuse. cjsf.ca/contents/intravenus-… (starting at 9:18)

SAIL will be operating on reduced hours throughout the month of August. Effective August 1–31, 2026, our revised hours will be: Weekdays 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
SAIL will also be closed on July 29, for an agency-wide staff event.
Seniors First BC travelled up to Haida Gwaii earlier this month to provide a legal clinic in partnership with the Haida Gwaii Legal Project Society. We were also invited to give a presentation on our programs and services to a seniors group at Minoru Seniors Centre in Richmond.
We have continued to be active with presentations throughout July. We’ve discussed Elder Abuse, The Importance of Staying Connected, Frauds & Scams, Advance Planning & Government Benefits for Older Adults at community centres, neighbourhood houses, libraries & seniors’ centres.
Due to short staffing, SAIL will be closing early today at 4 PM and reopening Monday at 8 AM. If you require immediate emergency assistance, call 9-1-1. If you are in distress and need to speak with someone right away, please contact the Seniors' Distress Line at 604-872-1234.
We thank @Lifeassurealert for their donation of $7,500.
