Check out our latest surgical video publication in Operative Neurosurgery on the management of Tension Ventriculus Terminalis.
This is an extremely rare consequence of a chronically enlarging cyst of the conus medullaris, eventually causing the gradual buildup of intraparenchymal spinal cord pressure with the formation of tumor-mimicking masses (chronic piloid gliosis).

We are proud at @UNCneurosurgery to have our work featured on the front cover of this edition of Neurosurgical Focus Video on Navigation in Spinal Surgery.
The cover illustration not only captures the “all hands on deck” multidisciplinary approach to performing an en bloc sacrectomy, but also highlights the important role that navigation plays in creating precise osteotomy cuts prior to tumor delivery.
Within our video contribution to the journal, we describe several additional expanded indications of spinal navigation beyond pedicle screw placement:
1) Fully-navigated corpectomy
2) Spatial awareness during VCR to better understand the rostral / caudal / ventral limits of bony resection
3) Utilization of intra-op ultrasound in real-time to perform ventral impaction of retropulsed fragments after traumatic burst fractures
