NBC Today Show: Uber says that while they can almost always route pickups directly to where you are, when they PRICE trips they don't know if you're on one block or another, and that 1 block difference can make +/- 27% difference in ride price. Make sense?today.com/video/uber-lyft-ro…

NEW: Uber has quietly amassed $12.5 billion in a Hawaii-based insurance reserve, according to a new report shared with The Lever.
Critics say the fund could help bankroll Uber’s robotaxi expansion, sidestep taxes, and support efforts to roll back protections for accident victims.

Predatory and shameful exploitation of driver by Lyft. This should be against the law and carry punitive fines.
Uber and Lyft are middlemen. They deserve a finder’s fee for matching people who need rides with independent contractors who have the tools, time and ability to provide the service.
Instead, they control both sides of the market using an opaque, secret algorithm that systematically cheats drivers and riders. Weaponizing both the driver’s and rider’s own data to extract as much on each side of the transaction.
The driver carries all costs, and assumes all risks, related to the transportation services provided, while the apps siphon as much profit from the value of their service and charge as much as possible to the consumer, whenever possible.
Pure greed.

Is the Uber x Waymo partnership starting to crack? 🤔🚗🤖
In our latest piece on @driverlessguy_, I take a closer look at where things stand between Uber and Waymo… and the signals aren’t exactly subtle.
Austin was their last joint launch, and since then, Waymo has been expanding into new markets (and even teaming up with Lyft) without Uber. At the same time, Uber’s been busy lining up a growing roster of AV partners of its own.
Then there’s the optics 👀
Uber’s CTO recently shared a video of a Waymo driving erratically in SF. Not something you typically see from a C-suite exec when it comes to a key partner… and it raises some interesting questions about what’s going on behind the scenes.
Zoom out, and the dynamic is shifting. They’re partners in a few markets, but competitors in many more, and the incentives aren’t as aligned as they once were.
So… is this still a long-term partnership, or is it slowly turning into something more transactional?

Thanks to @latimes for this article about California’s high gas prices and featuring RSG senior contributor @sergioaved 📋 A few key points from the article:
⛽️📈 Gas prices have shot up amid the war in the Middle East, and California gas prices are the most expensive in the U.S., nearly 50% more than the national average.
🚗💸 These prices have eaten into rideshare driver earnings, and drivers are concocting clever ways to cut gas consumption.
🏢🤔 Ridesharing companies say they’re trying to help, but drivers aren’t convinced yet.
🛑🛋️ Sergio recommends the ‘decline and recline’ strategy, rejecting unprofitable rides until a better one appears.
🎯⛽️ Another strategy is to maximize rewards this period, and Upside is obviously one of the best options to earn cash back on gas 👉 therideshareguy.com/upside-r…
🏷️💰 You can use promo code RSGEXTRA35 to get an extra 35¢/gal cash back on your first fill up at participating stations.
