After the GOP primary runoff, I set out to interview Republican voters who had supported U.S. Sen. John Cornyn about what they were thinking. I called Wayne Thorburn to talk history. In a June interview, he told me he was undecided but wanted to get coffee w/ Talarico. He said:
From yesterday's Blast: Wayne Thorburn, the executive director of the Republican Party of Texas from 1977-1983, voted for James Talarico Read more about his decision and the parallels he sees to the 1978 Texas governor's race: thetexastribune.beehiiv.com/… #TXSEN

A second Democratic sheriff on @GregAbbott_TX’s endorsement list says he did not endorse the governor. Val Verde Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez’s statement:
The endorsement of Webb County Sheriff Martin Ceullar has been removed from @GregAbbott_TX's campaign website. Sheriff Ceullar, the brother of U.S. Rep. Henry Ceullar (D-Laredo), was indicted by the DOJ earlier this year for allegedly defrauding his office during COVID-19.

New: Texas Comptroller Don Huffines has issued four executive orders. But they may be executive orders in name only. The orders themselves direct comptroller’s office staff to start the formal process of changing agency rules. texastribune.org/2026/10/21/…

With 560k voters accounted for, and still some major counties who haven’t reported yet, I show that yesterday’s high turnout was made up of 95%+ of people who have voted in at least one of the last four November General Elections. #txlege

This afternoon, my Houston office received a suspicious piece of mail containing a white powder substance. The FBI, Houston Police and Fire Department, and U.S. Capitol Police responded swiftly. I am grateful to law enforcement for their professionalism and to my dedicated team members, who work tirelessly on behalf of Texans. This incident is deeply concerning. Attempts to intimidate your political opponents have no place in our country.
