Today, something completely unexpected and difficult to explain happened while placing an order on #Zerodha.
I noticed Equitas Small Finance Bank crashing and wanted to buy the stock at lower levels. I added it to my favourites and placed a limit order for 6,500 shares.
The stock was trading around βΉ54.90, and I placed an order for 4,500 shares at my intended price.
Within no time, the order was executed. But to my absolute shock, the stock that got bought was Andhra Paper, 6,500 shares, at an average price of βΉ68.26!
Yes, you read that right.
I was shocked and completely confused. I checked my favourites, and Andhra Paper wasn't even there. I had never held either stock in my portfolio before.
I immediately placed another order for Equitas SFB and sold some of the Andhra Paper shares at a loss. However, with liquidity drying up towards the end of the session, I couldn't exit the entire position and had to carry the remaining shares overnight.
Both stocks were new to my portfolio. I had no intention of buying Andhra Paper whatsoever.
How did an order intended for Equitas SFB end up buying Andhra Paper instead? And how did the quantity change from 4,500 to 6,500 shares?
I cannot explain what happened. Only Zerodha can investigate the order logs and provide an answer.
I hope Zerodha looks into this seriously and explains exactly what went wrong.
