this is exactly how i want to be treated and you only understand how valuable that environment for blunt criticism is when it’s gone:
Last winter I was extremely overwhelmed by multiple emotionally loaded and logistically tricky problems and i called @kvdozer on the verge of tears and he said immediately, with superb calmness:
“Divya you are being a little bitch. Jeff Bezos would not be crashing out. He would solve the problem in front of him and figure out the rest after.”
And it was the best thing anyone could have said. I calmed down right away and said “ur right, im being a little bitch. Thank you. I’ll call u tmo”
I worked all night and solved the task at hand. I still thank him for it.
This tweet is so so relatable and I have resigned myself to the same conclusion. Tough love does not work on most. I don’t think I can respect someone if they don’t respond well to/ actively seek out tough love tho
