The story so far: In the beginning the Web Server was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Wait a minute
if this PHP vulnerability allows remote code execution, doesn't that mean we can use the vulnerability to auto-patch all vulnerable servers?

Big milestone for Shielded Labs: the activation height for NU7 is being set today! The upgrade includes our first major mainnet deployment: the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM). Like Bitcoin, Zcash faces a long-term challenge: how to sustain network security as block rewards decline. The NSM helps address that while preserving the 21 million coin cap. ZIP-235 removes 60% of transaction fees from circulation, allowing that ZEC to be reissued as future block rewards. ZIP-237 starts that recycling around February 2031. At current fee levels, that’s only about 210 ZEC per year. This is a modest first step, but we’re optimistic about how new use cases for the NSM could evolve over time and contribute to Zcash’s long-term security.

Had the great pleasure of chatting with @aescobar0g of @rhea_finance. Finally it seems like we have a good native DeFi stack for cryptocurrencies, like privacy coins, that don't yet have it in their own ecosystems. Yet another killer NEAR Intents use case.

@ShieldedLabs @Zcash Protocol Study Session Notes, Session 9 (Part 1); Hash Functions: @shieldedmark walked us through the small zoo of hash functions behind every shielded transaction: which one runs where, and why each was chosen. @feministPLT also helped to explained some hard parts We covered: 1. The Hash Function Zoo: the SHA-256 & BLAKE2 families 2. Merkle Tree Hashes & Sapling's Positional Randomness 3. Viewing Keys & Quantum Recoverability (CRH^ivk, ZIP-2005) 4. Group Hashes: Getting Randomness Into a Group Section 5.4 is big, so the session was split into parts. This is Part 1.

Balaji explains why Zcash is finally having its moment “The technology did work 10 years ago but it took a while for the proofs to work on mobile, for example. The cryptography had to evolve” “The usability of it had to evolve. Everything had to work on mobile. Apple had to make that easier for things to work. A lot of crypto regulations had to move forward” “There were a lot of things that were both technical and social and geopolitical even and now I think it's hit its moment” “Most crypto projects, if they fail, they fail because they go too capitalist. They market it too hard and it just does the Burj Khalifa formation” “Zcash for a long time had the opposite problem of being too PhD which I see often in biotech” “Zcash almost wasn't commercial enough in some ways. It was so pure but that's good because it actually works” “People were in it for a long time for more than money and so now it is very good money”
