Midterm nightmare: just when you thought you’d heard it all.
The Democratic wave in Missouri was so strong that a state representative got re-elected—and arrested less than 24 hours later.
It’s a quiet news story.
Anthony Ealy (D-Grandview) won his third term on November 3 with a staggering 68% of the vote.
The very next day,Jefferson City police booked him into Cole County Jail on domestic assault and peace disturbance charges.
According to the police report, Ealy threatened a man, referenced a gun, and said, “I’m going to kill you.”
This wasn’t out of nowhere. House Democrats had already stripped Ealy of his committee assignments earlier this year due to ongoing behavioral issues—and they have no plans to restore them.
Yet voters handed him a 32-point victory anyway.
What does this say about the standards of the Missouri House of Representatives?
