People's humanity is so much more important than their political affiliation, and no, they don't necessarily go hand in hand

We're in a test golden era: very clearly the best rugby and cricket test teams in the world, ar the same time. I spent the first four decades of my life daydreaming about a world in which this might be possible.

we got two black captains shoving it back down people's throats 💪🏻 but while Siya have a bit more high spirits to him, Temba strike me as someone who got less time for your k*k.

I am very literally incapable of taking some people seriously.
Many have imagined some scenario in which they stand in judgement before the Creator of Heaven and Earth and receive commendations for fighting a war against pronouns, and that just seems so incredibly silly to me.

Oh FFS. He used to be a serious person. Who looks at Pete Hegseth and thinks ‘yeah man, that’s what we need’.
I have a good friend in the Army who is gay. He has had a lot of challenges as it is without this false virtue signalling bullshit.

This is the official White House outlet. Posting a clearly racist, demonizing, and dehumanizing picture. All to further stoke hatred and fear towards others.
Stop calling this administration Christian.
Stop calling this administration American.
They are white nationalists.

There are many reasons why the 25th Amendment should be involved but Trump constantly bragging about passing a *dementia* test and calling it really hard has to be near the top.
Trump: I'm the only president to pass. I passed 3 cognitive tests. And they're hard. They have a lion, a bear, a snake, and a camel. They say, which one is the snake? It's a very powerful test, very highly respected test, very well known test, 30 questions, very hard. I passed it all 3 times. I aced it

UPDATE: A month and a half extension - and then they just refused the entire thing as it would be too much to collate. So we will not be getting a full picture of the bungled benefit law any time soon.

This is really poor by @FA. The governing body is supposed to protect players. It should be disputing this regulatory commission verdict by members drawn from the FA judicial panel. Max Dowman could have suffered a bad injury to his standing leg from a dangerous challenge which went unpunished. Arsenal 16-year-old shouldn’t have reacted but his frustration was understandable. Some other players might have rolled around and ensured a bad challenge was punished. Dowman didn’t. He doesn’t stay down. The FA should have shown some understanding towards Dowman. Instead, it has suspended him for three games. FA priorities all wrong: tolerating a poor challenge and some weak refereeing but punishing a kid who objected to a bad challenge that could have dealt him a serious injury. Protect players. #AFC

Excellent analysis by @owenjonesjourno
Deeply fucking depressing though
Netanyahu and his allies have beaten the opposition in the Jewish Israeli vote.
That's despite:
- Presiding over October 7th
- Netanyahu being on trial on charges of bribery and fraud
- A cost of living and housing crisis
- Attacks on the judiciary
- Outrage over shielding ultra-Orthodox Jews from conscription
- The Qatargate scandal
- The disastrous Iran war
- The Israeli establishment rationally believing that Netanyahu was making their state a pariah, and organising to get rid of him
- The opposition overwhelmingly also supporting the genocide, occupation and illegal settlements
If we include Ofer Winter's party - which pledged to support Netanyahu for prime minister, but hasn't crossed the threshold - then so far 51.5% of the non-Arab list vote went to the Netanyahu bloc.
With 84.4% of votes counted, among the non-Arab list bloc, the opposition has only increased its share of the vote by about 1.6 points.
Ben-Gvir and Smotrich stood separately this time, but are set to win almost the same combined number of seats as last time.
The latter in alliance with Moshe Feiglin, who declared "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy."
The only significant shift is the surge in support for the Palestinian-led parties.
But most of the opposition is opposed to working with them. Avigdor Lieberman, for example, has taken even more extreme positions towards Palestinians than Netanyahu himself.
If they do a pact with the Palestinian-led parties, not only would it not last long, it would produce a huge right-wing backlash.
That the opposition could on paper form an arithmetical majority with the support of the Palestinian-led parties - but absolutely will not - trashes the "well if the small minority of Palestinians who remained in Israel after the Nakba can vote, then Israel is a democracy for all its citizens" nonsense.
A very likely prospect is that this will pave the way for new elections.
The two right-wing parties which didn't cross the threshold would likely not stand again, boosting Netanyahu.
The same huge mobilisation of Palestinian citizens of Israel would likely not transpire.
Netanyahu and his allies would likely benefit from shock at the unexpected surge in support for the Palestinian-led parties.
The opposition would be demoralised by its failure, and Netanyahu strengthened by having come out on top in this election.
So it's best to bet on Netanyahu winning a coming election.
What does all this mean?
Any illusions that change can happen within Israeli society should long ago have been destroyed.
The opposition would have continued the genocide, the occupation, apartheid and colonisation.
But as Israel's support in the West collapsed, Israel's cheerleaders pushed the position that Netanyahu was the bogeyman, and that a shift in figurehead could allow the state to do a PR relaunch.
Netanyahu isn't Israel, we were told.
Well that's true in the sense that on many key issues, Israeli society is actually more extreme than Netanyahu.
This baseless illusion is now dead and buried.
There must now be a much more determined push for a total arms embargo and sweeping sanctions on Israel.
Those arguing that Israel is something it plainly is not are now completely and utterly discredited.
