our most iconic complementary schemes are also RYB, blue+orange and red+green, even if there's no objective reason that those are definitive or better. We're just running on hundreds of years of painter influence

because kids' first experience with color doesn't come from tech or light, it comes from painting, and RYB is usually the most reasonable color model for mixing opaque pigments. CMY and RGB are additive but mixing pigments is subtractive or something
